Regarding the future of the league, Anthony Edwards is one of the few players considered the next face of it. But why him? As a 23-year-old, ANT has made the case for the best shooting guard in the NBA. Not only that, but he also led the Wolves to their first Conference Finals in 20 years. Along the way, he’s established his name among players like Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, Nikola Jokic, and other bright stars. Quite surprisingly, just a couple of weeks following the Olympics, the gold medalist started hitting the gym.

In his recent Instagram post, ANT dropped a video of himself as he practiced his threes at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Out of all the aspects, Anthony Edwards has struggled from beyond the arc lately. Last year, ANT averaged 35.7% from deep range with just under 7 attempts. However, in the playoffs, he shot 40% 3-p and took at least 7 of them across 16 games. If the young gun can improve his efficiency from the outside, his game will be unstoppable. And that’s what he’s determined to show this upcoming season.

In the video he posted crediting his Atlanta hoops roots, Edwards did not shy to include his misses. In fact, ANT shot 9 of 17 in the video, also missing 3 consecutively. His caption, “Real Atl Playa, I show misses 2,” just shows how confident he is in practice. However, if the Wolf continues to work on his shooting, Minnesota will be looking at an MVP-level guard.

Not only that, but Anthony Edwards is not alone when it comes to struggling from deep.

Chicago Bulls‘ Alex Caruso was in a similar spot last year and the year before. He established himself as a great defender and a reliable backup scorer. But AC was having a hard time keeping up with his consistency from beyond the arc.

From 2021 to ’23, Caruso averaged 35% from three in 2.6 attempts. However, as he entered the 2023-24 season, his efficiency rose to 40.8% from deep range, averaging just under 5 attempts. If anything, Anthony Edwards can use him as a direct example, except the 23-year-old talisman has much more responsibilities to take care of.

Anthony Edwards is slowly climbing the MVP ranks

ANT’s game doesn’t seem to stay constant. The youngster always brings something new each year. And recently, Anthony Edwards finally made the MVP conversation and even ranked 7th in the voting results. Not to mention, he also made the All-NBA second team. Averaging 25.9 points, alongside 5.4 rebounds and just above 5 assists while shooting over 46% from 3, ANT has definitely come a long way in just his 4th year.

It is safe to say that ANT’s game has only exceeded everyone’s expectations in the last few seasons. Having said that, Anthony Edwards is yet to go off crazily for an MVP season. It will be interesting to see the young gun go off this year, as the Wolves look to make a deeper playoff run. If the franchise manages to finish as a top-three seed in the West, they can expect a defining playoff run.
