Did Devin Booker truly deserve the Team USA honor over Anthony Davis? Let's hear your thoughts!

France vs USA gold medal game marked the end of an era. When Stephen Curry sunk those last four three-pointers while Kevin Durant and LeBron James watched it from the corner, not a lot of fans thought about Team USA’s future. It’s the last time that these three superstars would suit up together at the Olympics. Now it’s time to look ahead and find their possible replacements. While Anthony Davis hinted at his participation in the 2028 Olympics, the Fox Sports veteran dropped a brutal statement, crushing AD’s dream. And, instead, extended the honor to Devin Booker.

After collecting his second Olympic gold medal, Davis kept his options for the 2028 Olympics, saying, “I think so.” It’s no doubt that the Lakers superstar put out an impressive performance throughout the tournament, coming off the bench. When Joel Embiid found it difficult to get his rhythm back, AD protected the rim while he shot 62.5% from the field. Above all, he played an important role in the Finals, dropping 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

While it’s natural to think of Anthony Davis as the face of Team USA’s attack in 2028, Fox Sports’ Veejay Huskey dropped a reality check. Even though his partner, Martin Weiss, debated, Huskey stuck with his stance. He said, “I don’t have AD on the next Olympic team. It doesn’t matter. He has wear and tear on his body, he gets hurt.”

Even though Huskey’s statement may sound a bit extreme, the media veteran does have a point. Anthony Davis, during his 5-season stint with the Lakers, has never played an entire season without injury woes. Surprisingly, AD played 76 games in the last season which is the most he ever played throughout his 12-season-long career. Moreover, Davis will turn 35 during the Los Angeles Olympics and it’s definitely uncertain for the AD to stay on top of his game.

Undoubtedly, Devin Booker had an impressive Olympic outing. However, the superstardom of the Big 3 overshadowed the 2x Gold medalist’s tough run. But, the team’s coach Steve Kerr didn’t fail to acknowledge it. After the gold glory in Paris, Kerr said, “Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player. Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

Moreover, it didn’t stop with Kerr. Former Warriors star Andre Iguodala also appreciated the shooting guard’s efforts. The former Finals MVP took to his X handle and wrote, “Book and AD were incredible throughout. Unsung heroes.” While the Fox Sports veteran completely agreed with both views, they expect only Booker to make it out big in the 2028 Olympics. In fact, they expect him to become the leader of the side.

Martin Weiss, speaking of the US side’s future, said, “I was thinking like, who’s next? Who’s gonna be the guy that’s gonna be taking over this? Who’s going to be the primary scorer, I was thinking, he’s probably out there right now and his name is Devin Booker.” Considering the consistency that DBook has maintained throughout his career, he could be the face of the team in the future.
