“It’s a glaring issue we need to correct. But it’s not like we’re going to spend an hour at practice and everybody’s going to shoot free throws,” Stephen Curry remarked in November 2024, addressing his team’s league-worst 69.7% free-throw shooting. True to his leadership style, Curry decided to lead by example.

Starting mid-December, the three-point king went on an unforgettable streak, making every free throw he attempted. At 36, Curry’s consistency became a rare source of confidence for the struggling Warriors. So, when that remarkable run finally ended, even rival players couldn’t help but acknowledge its significance.

With 4:30 left in the second quarter of the Warriors-Lakers clash, the Warriors held a foul advantage, giving Stephen Curry his chance at the free-throw line. On one attempt, the ball grazed the rim, bounced off, and went to Anthony Davis instead of swishing through the net. Close-up footage caught Davis exclaiming, “Oh Sh-t” after the miss—a testament to the weight of the moment. After sinking 37 consecutive free throws, even a rival couldn’t help but feel the disappointment.

Stephen Curry’s last missed free throw came on December 21, 2024, during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. From that point on, Curry maintained a perfect free-throw percentage, averaging 2.2 attempts per game over the next 14 matchups. In some cases, like three consecutive games and the recent clash against the Chicago Bulls, Curry didn’t take a single foul shot, allowing his streak to stretch further—until it finally ended, likely to the disappointment of both teammates and rivals alike.

Curry’s streak of 37 consecutive free throws was impressive but fell short of his personal best. In January 2021, Curry’s streak reached 80 after making four free throws against the Portland Trail Blazers before missing his fifth attempt.

Though he didn’t surpass Michael Williams’ league record of 97, Curry’s streak remains the fifth-highest in NBA history. That missed free throw hardly mattered that night, as Curry dazzled with a career-high 62 points, fueled by 18-31 field goals, 8-16 three-pointers, and 18-19 free throws.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Warriors rely solely on Curry's brilliance to overcome their free-throw woes?

Even Anthony Davis, a rival who clearly respects Curry’s skill, couldn’t help but feel disappointed at the end of such a remarkable run.

Anthony Davis holds Stephen Curry and LeBron James’ longevity in high regards: “Greatest shooter of all time”

Anthony Davis recently spoke with Shams Charania, reflecting on his unique perspective as someone who has had a “front-row seat” to LeBron James and Stephen Curry’s brilliance for years. Despite one being 40 and the other 36, the duo continues to dominate the game, delivering standout performances time and again.

When asked about witnessing their enduring excellence, Davis shared a single, powerful sentiment: inspired.

“It’s inspiring, you look at those two guys, two of the best ever to lace them up, like you say, arguably the greatest player of all time, greatest shooter of all time…But it’s inspiring man, to see them compete,” said Davis. “I got a chance to, like, see all these guys firsthand with the Olympics this year. It’s kind of like, yeah, like, it’s a reason why these guys are who they are. But seeing Bron and Steph go at it like, we’ve had them a couple times in the playoffs”.

Like Davis, many people may be realizing that LeBron James and Stephen Curry now have very limited time remaining on the NBA court. Therefore, they may be looking to make the most of it. Even if it means cursing when the rival player misses his shot.
