Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III is in the books. And the NBA World cannot stop talking about it. Last year’s fight ended in a no-contest and well, an ugly brawl. This time, fans were thrilled to hear about Saturday’s rematch in Mexico City. Although, it was an exhibition bout, the two boxers’ rivalry and star power were enough to put people on the seats.

But things quickly became confusing as Mayweather’s sudden verbal altercation with the referee led to a rather controversial decision. Even Lakers star Anthony Davis, who was surprisingly present among the audience, seemed “disgusted” by what happened.

Yes, fresh off his gold medal win in Paris, AD shocked the world when he made an entrance as part of Floyd Mayweather’s entourage before the fight. As he sat ringside to enjoy the two legends in action, controversy sparked during the second round after the referee deemed Mayweather’s hook an illegal blow to the back of Gotti’s head. Sure enough, the decision left Floyd fuming and he let the official hear how he felt and even shoved him. The drama continued as Floyd paced the squared circle in frustration. Then, leaving the whole arena in shock, the fight restarted but with a new official as the previous one left the ring..

Obviously, the drama with the referee was reminiscent of what happened in last year’s fight between Floyd and Gotti as that bout prematurely ended in a double disqualification. The two boxers kept verbally abusing each other despite multiple warnings from the official. Fortunately, this time the fight went the distance and fans got what they came to see. But the ref drama left many scratching their heads.

Anthony Davis’ expression and referee drama outshine the actual fight

With so much drama from start to finish, the night was a confusing one for everyone watching. Fans quickly noticed Anthony Davis sitting ringside and questioned his unique expression. “Why does Anthony Davis look so disgusted during the Floyd Mayweather fight?” Although it’s not clear which part of the bout the image was taken, but it was sometime after the official got swapped. So, maybe AD was just confused like everyone else.

But the Lakers star enjoyed his night to the fullest as he accompanied famous rapper Natanael Cano and Floyd to the ring before the bout began.

Meanwhile, some fans were just left wondering how Floyd’s fights make any money post his retirement as they are not as competitive anymore. However, one fan threw Anthony Davis under the bus to respond, “Mexicans, and Anthony Davis, apparently.”

Addressing the ref drama that had AD and the fans perplexed, the fight announcers even deemed it a page out of WWE’s book even calling it “almost scripted”. Moreover, its usual in WWE matches for multiple referees to switch mid-fight due to storyline reasons.

And when DAZN Boxing announced Floyd the winner of the fight, a fan was left even more confused as he wondered how there could be a winner in a non-scored exhibition bout.
