The Lakers had to admit defeat against the Nuggets tonight, finishing with a score of 114-124. But the LA fans are willing to overlook it for just this time because of another historical moment. LeBron James hit the 40,000 career milestone! “The King” just had 9 points to hit before he would reach 40k. Of course, the next question that naturally follows this is who is the most likely player to hit the 40k milestone? And it seems like Anthony Davis has an answer ready.
Post-game saw The Brow give his pick for who he thinks would be next in line to follow Bron’s footsteps. “Possibly Steph, the way he shoots the ball.”

In a somewhat hilarious take, Davis also has another take on his friend and trusted teammate’s historical moment. Apparently, the team loses every game that the Lakers superstar breaks a record. And for the sake of the team, AD believes that James has to stop breaking any more records.
Anthony Davis on LeBron:
"He might have to stop breaking records because we lose every time he breaks a record… I guess this one was more of a milestone than the record."

Needless to say, James’ momentous night was spoiled by the Denver Nuggets as the final victory was in their hands. And at the Lakers‘ home court, too. James finished the night with a team-high 26 points, nine assists, and four rebounds as the rest of the starting five also had double-digits to their name. But it wasn’t enough to defeat the reigning champion, Nikola Jokić, and his team.
LA’s last win over Denver happened on December 16, 2022. Since then, the Lakers haven’t won a single matchup. That, though, is the other side of the coin. Going back to Davis’ claims, let’s see if it holds weight.

Anthony Davis might be telling the truth
Davis’ comments on the fact that every time LeBron sets or breaks a record, the team loses might actually have some credibility to it. If by nothing else, at least by the following two instances we are going to be looking at. The first is none other than when the ‘GOAT’ broke Abdul-Jabbar’s All-Time scoring record.

On February 7, 2023, the Purple & Gold was matched up against the steadily rising young Oklahoma City Thunder. James had 38 points to finish that night (38,390 career points overall) and, in the process, passed Jabbar’s 38,387 points. But the team lost 130-133 to OKC.
The next instance also happened the same year and once again, Kareem was the benchmark. This time, LA was playing against the reigning big man Joel Embiid and the 76ers on November 27. James and Co. lost 94-138, but the 4x champion surpassed “The Captain” in the All-Time Minutes record. Abdul-Jabbar had 66,297 minutes and James went past him with 66,298 minutes.
