The Los Angeles Lakers recently faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers haven’t fared quite well this season, and the 4 March match saw them face the best team in the Western Conference. Despite the odds, however, the Lakers earned themselves a 116-104 victory. Five of the Lakers stars scored in the double digits and brought Oklahoma City down to the second position, with D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Davis securing 26 and 24 points respectively for their team.
AD provided much-needed support alongside LeBron James in terms of rebounds by adding 12 of them to his overall score. The Thunder tried to keep up under the guidance of Shai-Gilgeous Alexander. But, the Lakers emerged as the better side when the clock ran out. In the aftermath of the game, Anthony Davis put out a statement highlighting the current situation of the Lakers. Despite their last few wins, the team continues to rank very low on the points table.
This calls for the team to work harder in order to move up to a higher seed. While it may seem that the player realizes that fact, he reportedly made it clear the team doesn’t want the league’s seeding to build pressure on their minds. According to a tweet on X by Lakers Nation, “Anthony Davis says the #Lakers don’t care about their seeding or matchup, they just want to get in the playoffs and be playing their best basketball.”

The confidence harbored by Anthony Davis stems from the fact that this sort of pinch situation isn’t new for the Lakers. Just last season, LAL lost 39 of their 82 games. However, they still bagged the seventh position in the conference and even advanced to the Western Conference finals as well. While things may have worked out for them back then, 2024 presents a completely new challenge. In fact, the last berths for the playoffs have become a battleground this season.

Can Anthony Davis and the Lakers manage to reach the postseason?
Despite the 2024 season looking very lackluster for the Lakers, they seemed to have found their grip after the All-Star Weekend. Soon enough, however, they began to falter as they lost two of their first three games to the Warriors and the Suns by a combined 28 points. In the aftermath of the latter one, head coach Darvin Ham reportedly chose to blame the referees for making inconsistent calls.
Things seem to have stabilized since the past few games as LeBron James has returned in his in-form avatar. After his dominating performance in closing a 21-point deficit against the Clippers a few days ago, the Lakers sent the message that they are not to be considered out of the running anytime soon. As long as players like LeBron, Anthony Davis, and D’Angelo Russell maintain their pace, the team may very well have a chance to clinch their 18 NBA championship title. But, the bottom slots will be fought over by GSW, Dallas, Utah, and the Lakers as well. Will Los Angeles be able to wing their way to the playoffs once again?
