The people of Pacific Palisades continue to face the heat!

JJ Redick and Steve Kerr were the first ones to react from the NBA to the tragic wildfire incident in South California. Unfortunately, both their family homes were affected by the calamity. While Kerr made it to work last night, Redick, who dropped an emotional confession, has yet to return to work. Amid this situation, the latest update from Governor Gavin Newsom further affects the star coaches.

The quick response units, officials, and firefighters have worked relentlessly since the wildfire broke out. Two days into the act, Gov. Newsom revealed the level of fire containment for various locations. In regions like Sunset and Lidia, the officials have almost put out the fire. Notably, Newsom’s X post read, “The Sunset Fire has been 100% contained.”

However, at the same time, some regions have a lot of work to do.

Especially, in Palisades, where Steve Kerr and JJ Redick’s house are present, the officials have contained only 8% of the fire. So, it might take longer than everyone thought before the situation comes back to normalcy. The league had already postponed the Lakers’ Thursday matchup and tonight it dropped a statement, postponing the Lakers and Clippers’ next games against the Spurs and Hornets.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the response to the Palisades fire too slow, or are officials doing all they can?

Before the announcement, JJ Redick made an emotional confession, saying, “Being here, for me, was great because it gave me something to look forward to, honestly… We obviously are gonna work with the NBA, the Spurs, the city and do what’s right. I want to play tomorrow. I want to coach tomorrow.”

However, the league’s latest announcement has postponed the Spurs matchup. Moreover, it might take longer than expected before we witness the Lakers in action, as their next three games are scheduled in LA. And until the situation is brought under control, the league would give the green signal.

Since the fire, Steve Kerr has been on the road, carrying his team on a tough stretch. Last night, the team took on Detroit Pistons and produced a comprehensive victory. Amid that positive, Kerr dropped an update on the LA wildfire. Initially, the 9x NBA Champ revealed that his mother, Ann, was evacuated from the spot and was safe.

Last night, he added, “Her house is gone… I’ve been on the phone with my siblings quite a bit. Family calls just with my mom… She’s safe and sound but that’s my hometown and all my friends who are from there pretty much they’ve all lost their homes, their family homes, childhood homes, our whole High School’s gone. The town looks like it just been completely wiped out. It’s um surreal and devastating um but fortunately um you know most almost everyone escaped.”

It’s truly a devastating state for anyone who lost their home to the wildfire. Nevertheless, despite the horrific loss, Steve Kerr laced up for tonight’s matchup against the Pacers at Indiana. Unfortunately, the Dubs lost the game, playing without 5 of their core players.
