The Los Angeles Lakers have made some huge moves this week. The team seems to fine-tune their roster according to their newly acquired talent, Luka Doncic. But the wheeling and dealing might not be over just yet. An anonymous source has hinted that the team’s GM Rob Pelinka is eyeing some potential moves before Thursday’s trade deadline.
As per recent reports, the Lakers have acquired the Charlotte Hornets center, Mark Williams. This trade was made in exchange for rookie Dalton Knecht, forward Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round pick, and a 2030 pick to the Hornets. It was also reported that the Lakers were looking for a mobile, lob-threat center, the type of player that Doncic desired.
The Lakers see Williams as a good fit with Doncic and a long-term solution at the center position. The 7-foot, 240-pound Williams averaged around 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets this season. His young age of 23 years also fits in the timeline of the 25-year-old Doncic. Their aggressive pursuit of talent has been the talk of the league but there are whispers which suggest that Pelinka isn’t satisfied yet.

Is Rob Pelinka eyeing for more?
There are coming from within the Lakers organization that the Lakers still have a second-round pick left. They could trade if they want to make another move before the deadline. The team made that two-for-one trade with Charlotte which means now they have an open spot on their roster. This is big because after the deadline, players who get bought out by their teams become free agents.
The Lakers can then sign one of these guys – usually veterans looking for a contender – to fill that open spot. So, they have two ways to improve the team: a trade with the pick or a signing from the buyout market. With Knecht gone, the Lakers might focus on finding someone else who can either create plays for others or knock down three-pointers. However, it hasn’t been made official yet, whether the team will acquire another player or not.
The Lakers traded their 10x NBA All-Star center/forward Anthony Davis for his injury concerns but it seems like Williams has been going through the same. Mark’s injuries over the past have sidelined him from the Hornets roster for a considerable amount of games. He has played 22 games this season, 19 in his last season and 43 the year before. As per the stats, Mark has played in less than 40% of possible games in his career.
However, it is reported that the Lakers organisation are quite confident in his medicals, and as per the team, his previous back and foot injuries do not require any surgery. The Lakers have already added him to their roster, and he is expected to suit as the team’s starting centre in their upcoming game against the Warriors.
