What’s your perspective on:

Is the outrage against Cole Anthony justified, or was it just an unfortunate accident?

Have an interesting take?

The Detroit Pistons surely won fair and square against the Magic last night, but at what cost? Cole Anthony will probably never forget what his nearly 13 minutes on the floor did to Detroit’s Jaden Ivey. A dive that was entirely unintentional led to a crucial injury for the Pistons’ guard, and reports quickly emerged, marking it as a significant blow for the franchise.

ESPN’s Shams Charania stated, “Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey has sustained a broken fibula in his left leg, sources tell ESPN. Ivey has had a career season for the resurgent Pistons in his third year, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4 assists. He exited Wednesday’s game on a stretcher.”

With that statement came the fans’ outrage against Cole. Many criticized the play and despite it being unintentional, some blamed Anthony for the injury and expressed frustration over the impact it had on Ivey.

Cole Anthony draws the ire of Pistons fans after Jaden Anthony injury update

A fan commented, “Cole Anthony gotta be suspended for this . Diving at someone’s leg with 10 min left in a game like it’s the nba finals game 7 is nasty.” The incident occurred in the final quarter, with the clock showing 10:08 left, Cole Anthony dove for a loose ball, colliding with Jaden Ivey, who fell hard on the floor. And in an instant, Ivey was seen clutching his left leg, clearly in pain. The fans felt it wasn’t an intense game like the deciding Game 7 of an NBA Finals, where every play is critical, so that dive could have easily been avoided. They demanded a suspension for Cole.

Of course, they weren’t the only ones suggesting that. There were more voices that quickly followed.

“Cole Anthony deserves a suspension,” read another comment. There hasn’t been any announcement from the league regarding his suspension, but it’s clear that the action wasn’t intentional. When Ivey was carried off on a stretcher by the Pistons’ medical team, Cole looked just as upset as the Detroit squad.

Whereas, some shared heartfelt messages for the young guard. “That is terrible news. Best wishes to him on a speedy recovery,” one fan wrote on X. They wished for him to heal quickly. However, a broken fibula typically takes somewhere from six weeks to six months to recover. Unfortunately, there has been no official word on the exact timeline for his recovery.

Someone angrily cursed the Magic combo guard, wishing the same injury upon him. “This should have happened to Cole Anthony, now I’m rooting against Orlando,” they wrote. That obviously shouldn’t be the case, as hoping for opponents to go through such a devastating incident is spiteful and harmful.

“Get Cole Anthony out my league,” another fan demanded. At the moment, the fans are experiencing high emotions. The is leading some fans to demand Cole’s removal from the league, but that certainly wouldn’t be possible. However, being more careful on the court is definitely something players should keep in mind moving forward.
