Andrew Wiggins puts everything on the line for the Dubs. If you’re a Warriors fan, the Wednesday night win against the Houston Rockets would’ve stirred your emotions. It wasn’t only because the team ended the frustrating losing streak, but also the showcase of grit, sacrifice, and loyalty. Despite impending danger to his ankle, the 29-year-old took the responsibility to lead the short-handed side to victory amid his trade rumors. Coach Steve Kerr, impressed with his strength, called him a superhero.

After losing their 5th straight game at Denver, the team returned to the Bay Area to host the Houston Rockets. Notably, the H-Town has had a dream run, staying afloat as the second seed. And, on the other hand, the Dubs had three starters in the injury report. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Wiggins. While Green and Steph dealt with serious injuries, Wiggs decided to step up for the team despite the nagging ankle injury that he picked up from the recent loss against the OKC Thunder.

Guess what? It did the trick for the team, as Andrew Wiggins’ combined 56-point effort with Jonathan Kuminga helped the team break the streak. Speaking at the post-game presser, Steve Kerr addressed Wiggins’ courage. The Coach said, “Wiggs was phenomenal. I don’t even know if he should have played tonight. He had the ankle… he gutted it out. He’s been that way since he’s been here, Ironman.” Moreover, the 9x NBA Champ also decided to remind the NBA world of his star forward’s toughness.

In the last few seasons, Wiggins missed a bunch of games, citing personal reasons. However, it wasn’t the same at the beginning of his career, as Kerr added, “I think the first seven years of his career he might have missed, you know, 15 games. So we know we can count on him night after night to be there for us. And he knew he had a lot of responsibility tonight with Steph and Dre out and he and JK really both did a great job of providing the offense.” While Kerr poured out his praise for his trusted forward, Wigs also came under trade radar.

Andrew Wiggins responds to Kerr’s praise amid the trade rumor

Following the 2022 championship, Andrew Wiggins hasn’t been at his best. In fact, he scored a career-low performance last season, averaging 13.2 ppg. And, during this slump, the 29-year-old triggered trade rumors. Especially during the 2024 off-season, many expected the Dubs to let go of their star forward. However, the team continued to put their trust in him.

Nevertheless, the rumors didn’t stop to pour in. Recently, Fran Leiva, a notable reporter, brought out a trade equation between the Wizards and Dubs, by sending Wigs for Kyle Kuzma, the ex-Lakers who has had an awful shooting exhibition this season. While the team has already given away Jordan Poole to the Wizards, if this materializes, it will be huge.

However, looking at Steve Kerr’s trust in the star, that’s not happening for a while. Moreover, Wiggins responded to Kerr’s take, where he claimed that he shouldn’t be playing, citing the ankle injury. Wiggs said, “It was definitely bothering me a little bit. But the training staff worked on it. Made it feel better… Just fought through it.” This is the kind of spirit that the Warriors will definitely need considering the team’s ambitions to win the chip.
