Andrew Wiggins has proved to be a great wingman for the Golden State Warriors. The 29-year-old has proved it on various occasions. However, the most memorable of them was one from the 2022 NBA Finals. The screen he put on Jayson Tatum on June 17 had stopped the Celtics forward at just 13 points in that game. It was a big factor because the Warriors won that game and got the title for the 2021-22 season. A highlight of that night’s play was former NBA All-Star and swingman Andre Iguodala giving some serious advice to Wiggins during the game. Recently, the Warriors forward appeared on a YouTube podcast titled ‘SPORTSNET,’ revealing the truth behind the legendary meme.
When the podcast’s co-host asked Wiggins what Iguodala said to him during the game, the former replied, “He was just telling not to switch easily. I think he was just telling me to fight over all these screens because I’m locking up. I’m doing my thing on defense.” Notably, Wiggins made it difficult for Jayson Tatum to even breathe during that NBA finals. However, there was a reason why Iguodala interfered. Interestingly, Steve Kerr wanted Wiggins to keep switching on Tatum, assumably with fellow GSW player Draymond Green.
But it was Wiggins who put pressure on the Celtics in the final. If any other player would have switched his place for screening, the pressure bubble might have broken out for the Celtics. Observing through the whole situation, Wiggins revealed Iguodala further said, “Don’t switch. I don’t care what no one says. Just stay with them coz you’re the person that can stop this guy[Tatum].” Ironically, for such fair advice, a meme went viral of Iguodala‘s video with the caption that he is advising Wiggins on how to clinch the MVP title from Steph Curry.

The Jayson Tatum of 2022: An unstoppable force whom Andrew Wiggins stopped!
Jayson Tatum, from the 2021-22 season, was an absolute monster on the court. Playing about 24 games in the playoffs, the Celtics forward averaged 25.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists. Tatum was a nightmare for the opponent’s defense as he played a career-high number of playoff games that year. Even this year, he has not played that much number of playoff games. However, the momentum that he got from the start was put to an end in the Finale by Andrew Wiggins.

Tatum could only average 21.5 points in the finals series against the Golden State Warriors. Yet he managed to maintain 6.8 rebounds and 7 assists in the six games that he played. He was shut down on the defense on many occasions. However, he tried his best to create scoring opportunities for his team through Jaylen Brown. Brown was the leading scorer from that series, averaging 23.5 points.
Well, Jayson has evolved immensely after that final and surpassed himself in every aspect. This year, in the Playoff finals, the Celtics forward has been averaging 40.5 points in the 14 games that he played. Now, the last barrier his team can conquer is the Dallas Mavericks.
