Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are arguably the Greatest shooting duo in NBA history. Their shooting prowess has helped the Warriors turn into a dominant dynasty, winning 4 championships in 6 NBA finals appearances. It is very rare that two elite shooters of Steph and Klay’s caliber are drafted by the same team.
So, when asked about playing with The Splash Brothers, former teammate Andre Iguodala said, “It’s just like lightning strike in the same place twice.”

Andre Iguodala talks about The Splash Brothers’ effect
In the latest episode of Gil’s Arena, NBA legend Andre Iguodala opened up about sharing the court with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Andre talked about how Klay and Steph’s backgrounds helped them dominate the NBA, “They grew up in the league, so nothing fazed them.” Both Steph and Klay’s fathers are former NBA players, which meant they had the privilege of going to different NBA arenas and using the best equipment since they were kids.

The Splash Brothers grew up surrounded by paparazzi and fans, so they were never bothered about fanfare and celebrities. “They grew up watching their parents play at the highest level.” Iguodala added. Klay’s father, Mychal Thompson, was the No.1 pick in the 1978 draft and averaged over 13 points and 7 rebounds in his 12-year career. Steph’s father, Dell Curry, was a sniper like his son and shot over 40 percent from 3 in his 16-year career. This access to knowledge and facilities helped Steph and Klay become the players they are today.
Even as NBA kids, The Splash Brothers had the competitive fire
Even though Steph and Klay had their fathers in the league, they always had a chip on their shoulders. “They were late bloomers.” Andre said, referring to where the duo gets their competitive fire. Before the Splash Brothers redefined how NBA basketball was played, the playing style when they were drafted was different from what it is today. Early in his career, Steph had several injury concerns because of his weak ankles and small frame. Klay Thompson also did not become the lethal shooter he is today until his third year in the league.
The duo finally proved the doubters wrong by winning their first NBA title in 2015, beating prime LeBron James and the Cavs. The Warriors have never looked back since. Steph and Klay are now considered two of the best shooters to ever hold a basketball, and they have 4 rings to back that claim.

Even though The Splash Brothers were destined for greatness, their careers might not have been this legendary if they played on different teams. So, the Golden State Warriors struck gold when they acquired and built around Steph and Klay, creating one of the most dominant duos in NBA history.
