The Golden State Warriors are in New York City to face the Knicks. Even though Stephen Curry and Co. were in enemy territory, they saw some familiar faces at Madison Square Garden. Warriors legend and Steph’s old teammate Andre Iguodala graced the arena to witness tonight’s highly-anticipated matchup. Steph caught up with Iguodala, and both legends shared a wholesome moment ahead of tip-off.
However, Dub Nation was unhappy with Iguodala embracing Steph because of what he said about the 4-time Champion earlier. During an interview, Iguodala was asked which player scares him the most during a tied playoff game. Despite playing alongside Steph for 8 years, Iguodala snubbed the Warriors superstar and picked his rival. “Kyrie Irving. It’s not even close.” Andre said. Many fans took Iguodala’s response as a betrayal to Steph and slammed him on social media after the duo embraced on the court. One fan wrote, “Get him away from Steph he was hating on him today.” The NBA World followed suit.

One fan even deemed Andre Iguodala a “sellout” after his comments about Steph.

This fan pointed out that Dub Nation does not like Iguodala right now despite him being a Warriors legend.

After Iguodala picked Kyrie Irving over Stephen Curry, he explained that defenders could stop Steph during clutch moments by double-teaming him. Meanwhile, Kyrie’s handles are so good that defenders cannot get the ball out of his hands. Iguodala reaffirmed that Kyrie is a “scary guy” and has more of a “fear factor” than Steph.
Andre Iguodala has firsthand experience of Kyrie Irving’s clutch gene
While Dub Nation slammed Iguodala for picking Kyrie over Steph, maybe his response was affected by Kyrie’s clutch shot in the 2016 NBA Finals. After LeBron James and Co. muscled their way back into the series by overcoming a 1-3 deficit, it all came down to Game 7. The game went down to the wire as the Warriors and Cavs fought for the Championship. With the score tied at 89-89, no player on either team could score a basket during the final minutes.

However, Kyrie Irving hit one of the most clutch shots in NBA history at the last minute to give the Cavaliers a 3-point lead.

Kyrie hit an insane step-back three-pointer over Steph, making the score 92-89 in the Cavs’ favour. Steph had the chance to tie the game but was locked down with some great defense by Kevin Love. The Warriors eventually lost the game and had to watch Kyrie Irving and Co. lift the title. Andre Iguodala knows what Kyrie is capable of during clutch moments and that is why he picked him over Steph to take the game-winning shot.
