The Brooklyn Nets are going through a slump, taking three back-to-back losses in their recent games. During a time when the big guns are needed on the court, PG Ben Simmons‘ return looks bleak as the Nets head off for another match-off against the Heat on Saturday. He has been suffering from consistent hip and back issues, which has resulted in him playing only six games in the season so far.
If we trace it back a little to May 2022, Simmons underwent a procedure known as microdiscectomy, for his herniated L-4 disc, and health experts had cautioned him that it could take at least 18 months for him to fully recover. Now, it looks like another week of recovery is on his schedule before joining the team back on the court.

According to sources, the Nets have confirmed that Simmons, dealing with back issues resulting from a pinched nerve, will be missing the games for at least one more week. After treatment, Simmons seems to be improving and is expected to return soon.
According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Simmons’ agent, Bernie Lee, disclosed that Simmons underwent an MRI, which showed nerve irritation on the lower left side of his body. Simmons hasn’t been traveling with the team for a few days. Instead, he has started some mild individual training and will have another assessment in a week to ten days.

Before taking the hiatus, Simmons was averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. Things are looking good for his return, but his consistent back issues might prove to be a deadly stain on his career. On the other hand, top scorer Cam Thomas after spraining his ankle won’t be back until next week, although he has already been cleared for on-court activities with the team.

On the Nets’ injury list, we also have Dennis Smith Jr, whose MRI results showed a sprained lower back; he is on a day-to-day basis. Despite the injuries, all seem to be in recovery mode and might soon make their comebacks.
