Can Victor Wembanyama really break the 30-year MVP drought, or is Shaq right to be skeptical?

Is Victor Wembanyama one of the best basketball prospects of this generation? The simple answer is yes. The 7’4″ giant from France has taken the NBA by storm. He became the San Antonio Spurs’ first overall draft pick in 2023 and also became the first French to achieve this feat. However, this isn’t the reason why the 20YO is sending shockwaves across the NBA world. Well, it looks like Wembanyama could end a 30-year-old dry spell in the time to come. So, what is it?

Experts believe Victor Wembanyama might be the first in three decades to achieve a quadruple-double. To put it simply, a quadruple-double is an extremely rare feat in the NBA where a player records double digits in four of the five statistical categories in a single game. Namely: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. But, why is the ‘Alien’ at the center of all this? Thanks to Wembanyama’s outstanding show against the Denver Nuggets that brought him to the pantheon of the elites.

Earlier in April, Victor Wembanyama faced the Nuggets. He scored 23 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, made 8 assists, and blocked 9 shots. He came close to acquiring the first quadruple-double of his career and the first one since 1994 by David Robinson. What’s unique about this fact is that even the likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry haven’t achieved this tremendous feat in their 20 years of NBA career!

Meanwhile, ex-Spurs player Richard Jefferson is a tad bit skeptical about betting on Wemby. surely, Victor Wembanyama could sit at the same table as David Robinson and Nate Thurmond, but is he ready yet? It’s in the Spurs’ blood to pick up a quadruple-double, but “Quadruple-doubles are hard. Can he (Wemby) do it? Yes. Would I make a bet on the specific season? I might save this bet for a couple of years but I do think he will accomplish that feat,” remarked Jefferson.

Given the monumental talent, the Frenchman has shown, it wouldn’t be surprising for the fans to see him clinch a quadruple-double, an MVP, or an NBA All-Star.
