It has been nearly three decades but fans have not seen an expansion happen in the NBA. The last expansion took place in 1995 and since then, there have only been rumors. Though there are a few legends and even current players who are working to add a few more teams to the league, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may have something else in mind entirely.

LeBron James has been vocal about adding a Las Vegas team to the NBA. Unfortunately, that hasn?t come to fruition yet. But Thunder star Shai-Gilgeous Alexander wants Adam Silver to repeat a 28-year-old historic moment for the league.

The NBA currently has 30 teams in the league and it has been that way for nearly a couple of decades. The last team that made its way into the league was the Charlotte Bobcats after the Hornets relocated to New Orleans.

There are a few things LeBron James has been quite vocal about. One of his desires is to share the hardwood floor with his elder son, Bronny James. And that may come true sooner than anyone might think.

Another desire James has been chasing is adding a Las Vegas team to the NBA via expansion. The league has not shown interest in any expansion but there have always been rumors flying around.

But now, Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has another city in mind for an NBA expansion. And that city is none other than Montreal. This year, one of the preseason games took place in Montreal.

The Oklahoma City Thunder faced off against the Detroit Pistons at Bell Centre in Montreal. After the game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, ?The NBA should put a team here [in Montreal].?

Will the league see an expansion soon?

The last two teams that were included in the NBA via expansion were two teams from Canada. That happened 28 years ago, back in 1995, being the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies.

However, the Vancouver Grizzlies eventually moved to Memphis in 2001, forming the Memphis Grizzlies. But Shai-Gilgeous Alexander?s recent request would mean that the NBA may repeat history that happened 28 years ago.
