The NBA’s offseason window is full of speculation. The trade window is inactive after a raucous free agency that saw a ton of change. However, that doesn’t stop the flow of information that fills up the rumor mill. As players are looking for a change in scenery and teams are looking for a better fit, there are a lot of combinations to be worked out. Money matters too, so all the moves have to be viewed in that ambit. In that regard, conjectures can also run into scenarios that can be based deep into the next season or even the next free agency.
In that view, let us dive head-first into a scenario that involves LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers had a great offseason, inking D’Angelo Russell into a rather economic deal, which cost them below $20 million a year. LeBron James’ squad preferred keeping existing deals, such as Austin Reaves, who they tabbed for $12 million a year. Overall, they have managed to be under the luxury tax bill. This is a tremendous achievement for the franchise that generates the second-best revenue in the league.
Currently, LeBron James is at the top of the bill, costing the team around $50 million a year. Then there is Anthony Davis. The Forward is commanding around $40 million a year. These are the two heftiest contracts. The Lakers didn’t extend the contract of Davis and after the season, he will have the option to leave. However, Sam Quinn of CBS Sports has put the Brooklyn Nets as the frontrunner in a trade scenario.
In another hypothetical situation, Joel Embiid can emerge as a trade partner. He recently made comments where he said, ”I just to win a championship. Whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s gonna be”. This has led to murmurs that he may be looking for a change in scenery. Considering LeBron James is still in his prime and the Lakers have a solid squad around him, the Lakers may not be a bad option.

What incentive is there for Philly?
One thing is for sure, Embiid’s value is much higher than Anthony Davis‘. He is the reigning MVP and has back-to-back scoring titles. There are not many players who can match up to him and a team can run a ton of pick-n-roll action with him. To acquire the high-profile Center, the Purple and Gold will have to offer much more than Davis.
What can they offer? The Philadelphia 76ers must be thinking of holding on to Embiid for a long time, which makes sense. However, the recent James Harden saga has sent ripples that Embiid’s time may be done soon.
