“You only get one true love, one soulmate. Not everyone is lucky enough to find that person in a lifetime”. The following quote by Penelope Ward highlights a deep truth about life itself. We may achieve several things in life, but would they count if we don’t have that one person to share it with? Fortunately, if there is one person who does not have that problem, it is Malika Andrews. After all, she found professional success in the NBA world, along with her true soulmate. The ESPN sportscaster has grown to appreciate several things about her husband, which seem too good to be true. After all, it even left Stephen Curry’s sister and god-sister swooning.

Malika Andrews joined Sydel Curry and WNBA star Cameron Brink on their newly launched ‘Straight to Cam’ podcast. During the conversation, Sydel highlighted her belief that the three women had one thing in common. It was the fact that they found their respective partners pretty early in life. Malika revealed that for her, Dave McMenamin was the one for a long time.

With time, she has only grown to appreciate the advice he gives, whether on professional or personal matters. She also added “He’s the kindest person I know. He’s the smartest person I know. He is the most considerate person I know, and somehow, like in this big job and big world, he has the time to make every single person he’s around feel like they’re the most important person in the room”.

All of this inspired Malika to do better from her end, too. However, it wasn’t only the emotional aspects that attracted Malika to her beau. “Yeah, I just really admire him. Not to mention he has beautiful blue eyes. They’re really really pretty”. This caused Cameron Brink to state “Girl you’re in loveee!”. As they say, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it”. And Malika Andrews certainly flaunted.

Malika Andrews reportedly first met Dave McMenamin during a New York Knicks game, at Madison Square Garden, back in 2017. By that point, Dave had been in the professional NBA reporting space for around a decade. After his stint with ‘NBA Entertainment’ came to an end due to the recession, he started working as a reporter for ESPN back in 2009. His ESPN bio reveals that he has contributed to several platforms like ESPN The Magazine, The Hoop Collective Podcast, SportsCenter, and Outside the Lines. Malika joined ESPN in 2018 and made her debut as a sideline reporter for the network during the 2020 NBA Playoffs. Before that, she worked for the sports division of The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune.

Both Malika and Dave’s passion for sports brought them together. Their time in ESPN allowed them to be a closer part of their life. Eventually, it all led to Dave proposing on Thanksgiving Day, 2022, and the couple tying the knot in California in August 2024. From what the 30-year-old sportscaster said, she is quite lucky to have someone like Dave McMenamin as her husband. She may very well be seeking his advice and support as the trajectory of her professional career seems to be heading into unknown territory.

Will Malika Andrews become a free agent after her ESPN contract expires?

Less than a week ago, ‘Front Office Sports’ provided valuable insight into Malika Andrews and her renowned co-worker Malika Andrews. A report published by it revealed that Andrews’ current contract is set to expire in the fall. Meanwhile, Windhorst’s will be up this summer. This puts things in a pickle. After all, knowing the value they provide to the network, ESPN would want to keep both its on-screen stars. Unfortunately, Adam Silver’s new media rights deal has created new opportunities for the duo to explore.

NBA enthusiasts might remember that, back in July 2024, the league had signed a new 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal. The same took the rights from TNT and sent it to Disney (ABC and ESPN), Comcast (NBA and Peacock), and Amazon. Therefore, given their expiring contracts, both Andrews and Windhorst could be approached by Amazon’s Prime Video, and NBC Sports, about joining any respective shows they would use for their NBA coverage. Or, they already might have. Either way, Malika Andrews has a big decision to make.
