Because of his unfortunate shoulder injury, Julius Randle has been on a break for over four months. Dislocating his shoulder against Miami back in January, he went through months of rehab, hoping to return in the playoffs. But fate had something else planned and he was forced to undergo a season-ending surgery in April after reinjuring his shoulder during rehab. While the Knicks season is now over and Randle has time to fully recover, he was spotted enjoying some MLB action in New York, that too, in an old-fashioned way!

As the New York Yankees hosted the Minnesota Twins at the Yankee stadium, Randle was sitting in the front row among the fans wearing a Yankees shirt and supporting the home team. What caught everyone’s attention was the vintage Polaroid camera that he used to capture special moments. Even the game announcers were thrilled to see the NBA pro going old school in this age of mobiles.

And Randle definitely had a lot to store in his memory from the game as the Yankees dominated the Twins 5-1 and improved their record to forty-three wins. In only five seasons, Randle has become a beloved star in New York. Upon his arrival, the Knicks put an end to their 7-year playoff drought. And only two years later, they were able to make it to the Conference Finals after over two decades.

Although Randle was injured during this epic playoff run, he has played a huge role in the resurgence. Even this season before he got injured, he was having an amazing year, averaging 24 points along with over 9 rebounds and 5 assists. With that, he also made his 2nd straight All-Star team and his 3rd appearance after moving to NYC.

How far along is Julius Randle in his recovery?

When Randle chose to undergo shoulder surgery two months ago, it was an extremely tough decision for him, but the one that needed to be taken. More so because his teammates were still on the floor trying to compete for the title, all playing battered and bruised. While the season didn’t end the way Randle hoped, the latest update on his recovery has kept the Knicks fans hopeful for next season. In a recent interview with NBA Unplugged, JR revealed how his recovery is going over four months after the initial injury.

“I spent two and a half months rehabbing before, so when I came out of shoulder surgery I was recovering pretty fast; all my muscles around my shoulder are strong. So, I’ve been healing up great. Been taking my time. Not in a rush. But I like where I’m at for sure.” Yes, there is still time before Randle can get back on the court and perform at his best.

But with the rest he has gotten in the last few months and a lot of time left before the next season starts, he is highly likely to return to action on the opening night of next season. Until then, Randle can just focus on his recovery while also capturing some memories with his cool Polaroid camera!
