Following the piping-hot game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Kevin Durant steamed off with college basketball. The Phoenix Suns star not only watched the college game but also urged the basketball fans to direct their attention toward the game. Notably, he was also specific about the game. KD batted for the reigning NCAA Champion LCU Lady Tigers’ match-up with South Carolina.

Durant took to his X handle and posted, “These ladies are HOOPIN in Baton Rouge right now…tune in on ESPN.” Meanwhile, KD isn’t the only person who was hyped about the contest. The online world already built the hype for the reigning WNCAA Finals MVP Angel Reese’s match-up against South Carolina’s Chloe Kitts.

Apart from being a college exhibition, this game also turned out to be a battle between past WNCAA champions. The two powerhouses locked horns at Baton Rouge, LA, for a nail-biting contest that went down the wire. But before the battle began, the arena erupted with a pre-game party with the fans.

Meanwhile, on the court, it was the Lady Tigers, who bit the dust with a 76-70 loss. The reigning MVP Reese couldn’t finish the business, which she started. The 21-year-old was fouled out of the game with only 4 minutes left. Until then, the LSU had a two-point lead. But after her exit, the team was left with two freshmen on the court, eventually losing the game by six points.

Reese dropped 15 points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists, supporting Aneesah Morrow, who led the offense with 16 points. At the end of the day, it wasn’t enough to shut down the 2022 WNCAA Champions.

On the other hand, the South Carolina Gamecocks had an all-around game, spearheaded by Chloe Kitts with 14 points, supported by Tehina Paopao, who dropped 12 points with 6 assists.

Had Reese picked up her fifth foul in the crucial moment, the Tigers could have turned the tides in their favor, and Kevin Durant‘s suggestion would have turned out even more interesting.

Angel Reese – the rising star

Ever since her Finals glory against Caitlin Clark, she has become the poster girl for LSU’s basketball. She even amped up her popularity and fandom following her debut for the National side in the FIBA World Cup last year.

Now stepping into the fresh season, she dropped a strong statement about a former LSU star, who is also an NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal. As per the USA Today article, the rising star considers Shaq as her mentor and celebrity acquaintance. Moreover, she went a step further and called him a “father figure”.

If she picks up the domination that the Lakers legend possessed during his prime, Reese could even change the dynamics of the WNBA in the coming years.
