No one is safe in the NBA. Actions against the league guidelines have never been spared. Consequently, after multiple reports of an improper workplace relationship with a subordinate, Ime Udoka was sacked by the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2022-23 season. However, Udoka found a silver lining when he was picked up by the Houston Rockets this offseason to be their head coach.?

The Houston Rockets made headlines this offseason with their moves. They decided to bring fresh veterans into their roster after either trading away or buying out most of their veterans in the past few seasons. However, their roster will have the task of adapting to their new coach, Udoka. When asked about his impression of his new coach, Rockets center Alperen Sengun had a few words to share.

Sengun had something to say about the new head coach of the Rockets

Alperen Sengun has been on the rise in Houston. The Turkish national has already impressed several analysts and Rockets fans alike with his insane playmaking and post up skills. Entering into his third year, he has seen a major growth in all significant statistical categories each year.

He has also seen a major increase in minutes after the Rockets traded away their former starting center?Christian Wood in 2022. However, all of this was under their previous head coach, Stephen Silas.

Sengun was asked of his opinion on the new head coach in a recent interview. Sharing his experience about hearing the news, Sengun said, “It was a great moment…when I was in Turkey, we knew it’s, you know, someone is coming but we didn’t know, but then when we learned, we were like happy.”

He then went on to say, “My agency told me, tough guy, you know, for you guys.” He also shared his own experience of meeting Udoka for the first time saying, “I was excited when I came to Houston, we went to dinner, it was a great dinner.”

The 6’11 center then revealed his first impressions of the former Celtics head coach, “He (is) just so friendly with us, we like him, we like him a lot….it will be so much fun I think.”

Sengun and the Rockets seem to be excited about Udoka’s arrival, but can Udoka deliver, given the unfamiliarity in the air?

Ime Udoka has a tough task at hand

The Houston Rockets have been highly active this offseason. They have made several moves to surround their young core with seasoned veterans. Their young too have been shining bright of late. The addition of Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks can provide their core with some excellent veteran leadership. However, none of the star players have ever played under their new coach, Ime Udoka.

Udoka himself, joined the Rockets after some inauspicious incidents in Boston. However, he did lead the Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals during his tenure as their head coach. He has had a terrific reputation as a coach. However, coaching the highly inexperienced core of the Rockets may seem like a tough task. With the mission of bringing the Rockets back into playoff contention, Udoka has a challenging road ahead.
