The NBA and WNBA go hand in hand. There have been several instances of NBA players supporting their WNBA counterparts by watching their games, talking about their growth and also spending time with them off the court. Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has always been one of them. When the WNBA All Star Weekend came around, Young shared his telling remarks on the event.
The 2023 WNBA All Star Weekend has been nothing short of historical. The event that kicked off on Friday saw several records being broken on the very first day. Amid all the hype surrounding the event, Trae Young shared a moment that delighted him.

Trae Young has had an amazing time off the court this year. After an NBA season that ended in disappointment for the Atlanta Hawks, Young has been enjoying tremendous success during the offseason. He announced the launch of his third shoe in collaboration with Adidas recently in an interview. He also announced the launch of his own podcast, “From The Point”. On this very podcast, Young shared his opinion about the WNBA women playing overseas.
On the podcast, Young said, “That’s one thing I’m looking forward to hopefully changing for the W’s. I hate seeing all the women go overseas and playing…“.
Notably, Olympic gold medalist Allisha Gray and Cheyenne Parker received their first WNBA All Star selections in 2023. When asked about the two, Young mentioned, “Oh yeah, you wanna see everybody in Atlanta make noise, I’m looking forward to seeing them go out there.”

The WNBA is a highly competitive league that not many players can stay in. With the intensity and the competitiveness of the league, even the highly skilled athletes find it difficult to keep competing in the league. This is why several players over the years have moved to leagues overseas. Some however have just gone overseas to compete during the WNBA offseason.
Players like Jasmine Thomas, Kahleah Copper and the Dream forward, Cheyenne Parker have all been regulars in overseas leagues. Parker started her overseas journey with the Henan Phoenix during the 2015-17 WNBA offseason. She has since joined a total of 5 different overseas franchises in 4 different countries.
