Imagine a scenario where you are an NBA champion, you have a shoe brand you’re locking horns with, a gala awards night to attend, and on top of this, your mom’s mad at you! Too much chaos right? Welcome to Jaylen Brown‘s life. Amid the Paris Olympics snub, Brown attends the ESPY awards, walking the red carpet for the first time along with his lovely Larry O’Brien trophy, just one day after calling out Nike on social media.
Yet, everything went smoothly for him, despite one minor (read: major) hiccup – his mother, Mechalle Brown, was a bit mad at him.
As he was called on the stage to accept an award for the “Best Championship Performance” category, Brown was a little short on words. “Thank you ESPN. Thank you to my teammates, my organization, and my beautiful mother, who is mad at me. But, god is the greatest of all time.”

While it remained a suspense for a while, Brown cleared the air with his social media update. He took to his Instagram stories and shared a picture of his mom, who was posing for the picture with a brimming smile. This picture stood as a wholesome testament to the love that the mother-son duo shared.
Speaking of wholesome mother-son moments, this can’t essentially beat the emotional moment from the NBA Finals Game 5. After the Celtics thrashed the Dallas Mavericks and won the title in front of TD Garden, everyone was eagerly anticipating the announcement of the Finals MVP. It was already much debated because some section of the hoops nation felt Jayson Tatum deserved the Bill Russell Trophy.

Will Jaylen Brown clear the air regarding the Paris Olympics snub?
While the superstar cleared the air regarding his mother’s true emotion, everyone expects him to clear the air on the 2024 Paris Olympics snub as well. Initially, the squad for Team USA’s Olympic campaign included two Celtics players, Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday. Even though the debate around Jaylen Brown’s absence was in the air, it didn’t explode much.
A few days later, Kawhi Leonard pulled off the campaign, and Derrick White was called in to replace him. Fans seemed definitely disappointed. Despite winning the Finals MVP, the management went after White instead of JB. While its debate was brewing in the NBA world, Brown dropped cryptic messages on social media, triggering a wildfire. He took to his X handle and wrote, “@nike this what we doing?” along with eyebrow raise emojis.
