Imagine you’re given the task of running a franchise. What are the types of veteran players you’d look to add? The expectation from a veteran pro is that he’ll bring stability and wisdom to the team, passing his court acumen to the younger minds. For Draymond Green, can we say that? Despite his reputation, he proved that yes; he is the sort of veteran presence you need in the locker room.

In a recently surfaced video on social media, Draymond is seen attending a KlutchSports NIL camp. The 34-year-old went on to pass down some of his wisdom as he explained the follies of foul baiting and complaining about it. “Y’all chasing the game like all young dudes do. Come down, I need to get a 3, and ain’t nobody Steph Curry. But everybody wanna get to 3,” Draymond said to a group of trainees. He further added, “And then, y’all cried about every call that was called. I get a lot of text. So I’m actually fucked up on that part, but it’s also cost me 2 and a half million which is more money than probably everybody in here,” highlighting the amount he lost due to fines. The NBA fans were quick to call out Draymond over his remarks, as they believed he should be the last person to preach about foul complaints.

A fan wrote on X, “Hypocrite Draymond lol.” In recent seasons, Draymond stirred multiple controversies on the court due to his volatile nature. Bickering over fouls was also a part of it, earning his techs in the process. And that’s why he is being called out for his supposed hypocrisy.

Another fan wrote, “Draymond acting like he ain’t punch someone if they foul him.” Just to jar your memory, Draymond was involved in not one but two consecutive ugly altercations on the court. In November last year, he put Rudy Gobert in a headlock during a match between the Timberwolves and the Dubs. In the next month, he outdid himself by punching Jusuf Nurkic of the Suns. It earned him a lengthy suspension due to the continued acts of unsportsmanlike behaviour. After returning from the suspension, his feud with Nurkic was kept alive thanks to their social media antics, bashing one another.

“He saying that so that he can smack you when you get in the league,” joked a fan. But Draymond even smacked his own teammate. His beef with Kevin Durant was one of the pivotal reasons for the former to leave the Warriors, but things never went physical. That was until Jordan Poole came into the picture. In October 2022, Draymond Green punched his young teammate after an argument during training. Poole consequently left the franchise next year and that could be a fate for anyone getting on the bad side of the 4-time NBA Champion.

Keeping aside his feisty nature, the tough love he showed to the future stars was commendable. On top of it, Draymond proved that he could turn out to be a good coach if not a great motivational speaker. The Warriors understand what his veteran presence brings to the table, fulfilling the role of the necessary evil in the team.
