LeBron James dawns several capes: he is an NBA player who has redefined the superstar role with his remarkable longevity, a dedicated family man raising three children, and a selfless person who believes in giving back to the society and empowering the underprivileged. It’s safe to suggest that LeBron has left an indelible mark on and off the court.
However, LeBron James has taken a page from fellow NBA superstar Stephen Curry’s book by launching another children’s playbook, named “I Am More Than.” He announced the launch of his new book through a video via his Instagram account, accompanied by the caption: “Anything you believe, you can achieve! That’s what being ‘More Than’ is all about!” LeBron’s newest children’s playbook will be available in stores from 2nd April. LeBron’s announcement comes just days after Stephen Curry released his second children’s playbook titled, “I am Extraordinary.”

LeBron James releasing a children’s playbook is just another avenue for his off-court philanthropic endeavors. In 2021, James contributed around $20 million to establish a new school, along with three residential buildings and sports and entertainment complex, through the LeBron James Family Foundation. Apart from donating $20 million, the LeBron James Family Foundation has undertaken several projects that help to uplift the underprivileged.

The LeBron James Family Foundation was founded nearly two decades ago, back in 2004. LeBron and his foundation first gained local attention after they distributed free bikes and backpacks to school going kids. The foundation also provided housing to at least 16 different families. LeBron’s decision to air “The Decision” on ESPN generated huge controversy, but it also raised approximately $4 million for charity.
However, in 2018, LeBron made a trailblazing choice by opening the I Promise School. The school provides education to children from the 3rd grade to the 8th grade, and is extensively supported by the LeBron James Family Foundation. In fact, LeBron James donated more than $2 million to renovate the school building.

During the opening of the I Promise School, LeBron provided his reasoning behind opening the school. He said, “People ask me, ‘why a school’? And the reason is, I know exactly what these kids are going through … I know all the dreams they have—the nightmares that they have—and that they just need to feel like someone cares about them. Kids just want to know that we care about them.” LeBron is a role model and an inspiration to several kids around the globe not only for his on-court brilliance but also his off-court generosity. He has made constant efforts to make the world a better place for many who don’t have a privileged life. And that’s his enduring legacy.
