Adrian Wojnarowski always had a flair for surprises. But this time, the bomb wasn’t about trades—it was about him. In September 2024, Woj stepped down as ESPN’s Senior NBA Insider, handing the reins to Shams Charania. Rumors swirled that the grind wore him down. Partly true. But behind the scenes, a cancer diagnosis forced his hand. Now, he’s back where it all began—as the GM of St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball program. And just like that, the ‘Woj bombs’ went quiet.
But old habits barely die. On Monday, the ex-ESPN employee dropped a bomb. No, he’s not coming back to the media scenes. Neither is giving out trade rumors or confirmed information on anything associated with the NBA.
Instead, “Adrian Wojnarowski is auctioning off iPhones he’s used to break Woj Bombs, his NBA and ESPN credentials, and more,” Front Office Sports tweeted on their official X handle. What did Woj exactly say in this matter?

“BREAKING: Woj Bombs are history, but now you can be a part of them. Own the iPhones I used to report the biggest stories in basketball. Use link to bid on my original iPhones, NBA Draft credentials, dinner with me, and more to help support @BonniesMBB NIL.” Well, his intentions here look pretty simple. Adrian Wojnarowski is fund-raising for the St. Bonaventure Men’s Basketball team or the Bonnies.
But, there’s more to the story than just simple fund-raising tasks that the current GM of the Bonnies has undertaken. This episode finds its roots associated with the San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama. And yet, that’s not all.
Adrian Wojnarowski’s financial dilemma and the Wemby connection
The retired NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, now managing St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball program, has teamed up with Daps Bounty to auction off tools from his scoop-filled career. Fans can bid on his old, wiped iPhones and press credentials from nearly two decades at ESPN and Yahoo Sports. This also includes Victor Wembanyama’s Draft Pass. What is this draft pass then? To sign with the NBA, a player must be eligible for at least one draft. And it so happens, that Wemby’s special memorabilia is Woj’s prized possession. But he’s giving it up.

Meanwhile, the proceeds will support St. Bonaventure’s NIL collective, Team Unfurl. “This is another instance where I’m trying to impact our program and help raise revenue,” said Wojnarowski, the 1989 St. Bonaventure graduate who took a 99% pay cut from his ESPN contract reportedly worth more than $20 million to take the GM position at his alma mater in October. “We are in a fight to do that, especially in our conference. And we’re trying to do everything we can to be creative, innovative.”

Moreover, reflecting on his career, Wojnarowski called the last NBA draft his most memorable, knowing it would likely be his final one. Over the years, he bought new iPhones annually, storing the old ones in his home office. On his team’s advice, he kept them instead of tossing them out.

And look, what this idea of retaining the devices that dropped Woj Bombs is doing for the former ESPN insider. It’s helping him get the funds and reduce the financial crisis for the Bonnies. As a stellar reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski aced his game, and now as the GM of his alma mater, he’s doing the same. Nothing much has changed, you see!
