Have you ever tried to find solace by celebrating others’ success after having experienced a personal setback? To perhaps commemorate your friend topping the exam while you performed at an average level? Well, doing so is not for everyone, especially when disappointments come to you on a rare basis. After having devoted 16 years to the NBA, however, Stephen Curry has experienced as many disappointments as successful moments. Therefore, he has learned to commemorate others’ achievements even if he faced a major setback. Fans were reminded of this fact as Curry recently turned his attention away from basketball and towards his other favourite sport: Golf.

The Golden State Warriors star recently took to his official Instagram account to share a post on his story for his 58.1 million followers. He featured Rory McIlroy’s recent feat, as the Northern Irish professional golfer became only the 6th ever person in his chosen sport to achieve a Grand Slam. 14 years of efforts finally culminated in McIlroy rolling in a three-footer to beat Justin Rose in a sudden-death play-off, and finally win his first Masters title. Stephen Curry was elated about this achievement. Therefore, along with highlighting the post that featured Rory McIlroy’s feat, Curry also added a caption that read “Your time good man! @rorymcilroy”.

Stephen Curry certainly needed to find solace through someone else’s achievements. After all, it was only a few hours ago when the Warriors lost a crucial game against the LA Clippers.

A win would have ensured that the Bay Area franchise have their post-season run through the playoffs. Unfortunately, by losing to Kawhi Leonard and co through a 124-119 score, the Warriors dropped down to the 7th seed in the Western Conference Points Table. This means that the team will still be a part of the post-season, but will have to win a game against the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In series to ensure the squad reaches the playoffs. The Warriors have never won a game in the Play-In series. However, the team has won 6 of the last 10 games against the Grizzlies, including the last 2. Therefore, things can turn around for Stephen Curry and co in due course. For now, however, the player and his teammates would certainly be at a low point.

It wasn’t a surprise that Stephen Curry had his eye on the ongoing golf tournament. After all, the Warriors star is among that class of NBA legends, including Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley, that occasionally dabble with a golf club. Then again, Curry has done more than just playing around on the green pasture. Today, the Warriors star is known as an avid golfer, having won the American Century Championship back in 2023, and getting named the Golf Ambassador the very same year. The Hole-In-One shot the player made during the American Century Championship will forever remain an epic moment not just for Curry, but for golf history as a whole! Therefore, when the NBA star praised Rory McIlroy, he did it as a fellow golfer.

In a way, McIlroy’s win served as a win for Stephen Curry, too. After all, the Warriors star had been rooting for the 35-year-old right from the start.

Stephen Curry predicted a Rory McIlroy win during the Masters Tournament: “Waving that flag for years”

As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, less than a week ago, Stephen Curry was asked about his thoughts on the then-upcoming Augusta National golf tournament. It was a question, as highlighted by Ron Kroichick, that the NBA player anticipated. After all, with Curry being such a big golf enthusiast, it was almost an annual ritual ahead of the Masters to briefly chat about golf while the Golden State Warriors pushed for the postseason. With a thin, sheepish smile, Curry stated that he would like to see “Rory” win. After all, “I’ve been waving that flag for years.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Curry's admiration for McIlroy a sign of true sportsmanship or just a distraction from his loss?

Stephen Curry and Rory McIlroy go back a long way. Back in September 2023, it was announced that NBC Sports and Unanimous Media teamed up with Curry to launch a series titled ‘Niiice Shot’. As Curry followed a quest to recreate some of the most iconic shots in golf history, he enlisted the help of Rory Mcilroy in one of the episodes. In 2024, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy founded a new innovative golf league called TGL. Amongst the group of both former and current NBA players who invested in the venture was Stephen Curry himself. All of this allowed the NBA star to form a good connection with the golfer.

Rory McIlroy got his moment to shine in the spotlight. Now, it’s Curry’s turn. The player was certainly disappointment after losing to the Clippers. In a statement, he said, “You want to play a perfect game. That doesn’t really exist. There were a couple tonight that just got kind of trapped in jail, either in the corner or in the paint with three guys. Didn’t really have an outlet. Those are the ones you can avoid, but you want to play aggressive, play free, and not second-guess yourself”. With any hope, the Warriors find success in the Play-In series. If that happens, then McIlroy can be the one to highlight Curry’s achievement on his Instagram story.
