With the WNBA playoffs knocking on the door, the teams are willing to go any length possible to secure a win. One such example was observed in the Dallas Wings’ match against the Connecticut Sun. The Suns’ Dijonai Carrington deliberately flopped on the court to draw a foul against the Wings’ 5’8 star.
The 25-year-old Sun shooting guard made this error of judgment after committing a silly mistake. While trying to unethically make up for it, she was punished under the new rule set by the NBA this season.

Why was Dijonai Carrington penalized?
After an unforced turnover from Dijonai Carrington, Dallas Wings promptly started a counterattack. Arike Ogunbowale, the Wings’ point guard, tried to drive to the post by charging forward, with Carrington attempting to resist her. In the process, Carrington fell down on the court in a bit of dramatic fashion, earning a foul call from the referee against the 5’8 Arike.
Upon review, the actual incident turned out to be the opposite. Carrington seemed to have fallen down intentionally to cause the referees to call the foul on Arike. Under the new NBA rule, the match officials found her guilty and called a foul against her team.

Eventually, the Wings won 91-81 on home court to go 16-14 with playoffs approaching. The drama may not end here as the two teams would face each other this weekend for the return game.
