The 2023 Women’s World Cup has seen its first major shocker. The United States Women’s National Team, led by superstars Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, has crashed out of the tournament. They failed to win their contest against Sweden in the Round of 16. To make matters worse, Rapinoe missed the crucial penalty, leading to their loss. Following this heartbreak, basketball fans on social media platforms have started an important topic involving college basketball stars, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
Rapinoe and many other USWNT stars have come under fire after their Brittney Griner stance. This led to massive criticism which didn’t sit well with Twitter users.

The United States of America has historically dominated women’s soccer. Naturally, there was a lot on the line for the soccer stars when they headed into the World Cup this year.
Their brief stay in the tournament was filled with controversy. Many players like Trinity Rodman, daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, Andi Sullivan, and others refused to sing the National Anthem ahead of their clash against Sweden. Former POTUS Donald Trump was quick to bring up this issue after the USWNT’s loss.
“Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close. WOKE EQUALS FAILURE. Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA”, wrote Trump on Truth, a social media platform according to Yahoo Sports.
Trump has been very critical of Rapinoe and other athletes like Brittney Griner in the past. Similar to the USWNT team, Griner refused to stand up for the National Anthem a few years ago.
This was used by Trump and a number of her haters when Griner was locked up in Russia. In fact, the former President had questioned the need to bring her back while giving Russia a dangerous convict in notorious arms dealer, Viktor Bout.
Fans on social media brought up the Angel Reese issue in the debate
Following the USWNT’s heartbreaking round of 16 exits, fans on social media sympathize and bash everyone singling out female athletes.
In fact, they pointed out how athletes like Simone Biles, Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark have been needlessly criticized in the past. “Simone Biles, Brittney Griner, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams, Angel Reese, etc. etc. etc. The hatred spewed toward successful female athletes is never ending”, wrote a Twitter user.

Following LSU’s brilliant victory over Iowa State during the 2023 NCAA finals, Reese resorted to some taunting in the dying moments. This didn’t sit well with fans who bashed the youngster ruthlessly on social media platforms. In fact, NBA legends like Shaquille O’Neal had to come to Reese’s rescue.
