A few days ago, reports of Jimmy Butler’s first fight in the Bay Area raised Dub Nation’s concern. The man on the other side? Draymond Green. No, it was not a fistfight or a locker room brawl. Instead, Butler was frustrated at his new teammate for not catching one of his passes during a game, as veteran insider Anthony Slater revealed, “Jimmy was mad that he didn’t catch it. It was funny… Draymond’s all ‘My bad, my bad’ and Jimmy’s like ‘No’ as he kept on.” But such arguments are part of the game and usually nothing to worry about. And by the looks of it, Butler’s addition has brought a new life to the Warriors camp.
Since the blockbuster trade, they have won three of their last four games and looked like a legitimate threat in the West. Their latest victory came last night against the fourth seeded Rockets, where Jimmy played a crucial role, dropping 19 points and eight rebounds. Setting their initial differences aside, Draymond was left in absolute awe of the former Heat star and had high praise for him after the big win.
Detailing his assessment of Jimmy based on his recent performance, Green said, “He’s a franchise changer. He’s done that everywhere he’s gone and he is helping revitalize what we got here.” Although Butler has never lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy, he has helped put multiple franchises on the map. Even when he joined the Heat six years ago, Pat Riley’s team was desperately seeking a superstar to take charge following the end of the LeBron James era.

Jimmy came in and led the team to the NBA Finals in his very first season, starting a new era in Miami. Sure, things didn’t end well between Butler and the Heat. But during his tenure, they made it to three Conference Finals and two NBA Finals. Now, Draymond is getting firsthand experience of having a star like Butler by his side, “The belief amongst this team now that he’s arrived as opposed to what it was before he got here, its night and day… Just having a guy like that changes everything for us. After four games, the assessment is great.”

Moreover, Jimmy’s arrival gives Draymond a chance to follow through on the emotional conversation he had with Stephen Curry. Turns out, Steph had a brutal realization after the Butler trade, as Draymond revealed on his podcast, “Steph, he looked like he got belief. After the trade, he looked at me and said, ‘Man, it’s crazy because it just dawned on me that like, this is it. Like this is… This is the last run. Last run.’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it. Let’s ride until the wheels fall off.’ It was an emotional moment.” Yes, as both superstars approach their late 30s, this tenure with Butler could very well be their last shot at winning another championship before they hang their boots. And the duo seems to be going all in accomplishing that goal.

Draymond Green reveals Jimmy Butler’s unique quality that makes him a “True Leader”
Well, there is a reason Butler has fit in so well with the Warriors right away. When asked if the team is where it wants to be chemistry wise, Draymond revealed, “It’s getting there. It takes a while but Jimmy overcommunicates, which is great, you know. He doesn’t leave anything in the gray area. He’s like ‘Hey! So, what was I supposed to do there? What did you want me to do there?’ He overcommunicates about every play. A sign of a true leader.”

Although it’s established that the Warriors are Steph’s team, Butler does not shy away from putting forth his opinion and confronting his teammates. And Green loves that about him, “I love what he’s bringing to this team as a leader. Coming in and being that guy and not just taking a backseat, because that’s what we need.”
Sure enough, he is hopeful about the team’s chemistry growing significantly as the season progresses, “It will take some more time and we’ll continue to figure it out. But like I said before, we’re all winners and we’re all smart basketball players. So, we can figure it out.” From what we have seen so far, Jimmy has fit in the Bay Area culture like a glove and as he continues to get more comfortable with his new teammates, the Warriors could turn into legitimate title contenders.
