Stephen Curry had his fair share of struggles in the pre-2022 era, even after winning three championships with the Golden State Warriors. The media critics had him surrounded from all sides for his inability to perform under pressure before 2022. The most discussed time of this phase of his life was the 2018 NBA Finals against LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. Kevin Durant was on fire in that season. He and Curry were going neck to neck for the final MVP title. Yet Stephen Curry was unable to seize the accolade he tried desperately for.
It all went well, as he scored 62 points in the first game until Curry messed up in Game 3. It was not just his day as a range shooter like him just scored 11 points. He shot only 3-of-16 from the field. Apparently, Kevin Durant clinched the opportunity by scoring 43 points and earned the Finals MVP title. The appalling performance that Curry delivered broke him off from the inside as his ex-Warriors teammate, Nick Young, revealed it left Steph “damn near tears.” Still, Curry did not have a grudge after that incident, as he recently included Kevin Durant on his list of Top 5 players from his era between 2009-2023.

The Warriors revealed his admiration for the Phoenix Suns forward while appearing on the ‘Heat Check’ podcast alongside his father, Dell Curry. But it was not like that Curry lost his ambition for an MVP title. It took him two years, but he proved his mettle in the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics by averaging 31. 2 points. He did everything this time without Durant and nailed it by bailing the Warriors out of trouble every time. Eventually, he earned Clutch Player of The Year that year, defying all criticism from basketball fanatics.
Interestingly, it is not only KD that Steph admires!
Stephen Curry has got a desire for an unusual reunion with LeBron James!
Kevin Durant was not the only one that Curry included in his list of Top 5 from his era. It also had the Lakers superstar LeBron James. Notably, Curry has no interest in joining LeBron on a team in the NBA, but his conditions changed in his latest statement from the ‘Heat Check’ podcast. The Warriors forward admitted how great King James’ presence is in the locker room. But Curry had something else in mind for a reunion with the generational talent like LeBron.
While discussing about the topic, Curry stated on the podcast, “That’d [a team-up between Steph and LBJ] be interesting. Maybe we’re going to get that. Not in the NBA, but uh, maybe on Team USA type vibe, before we get out of here.” Apparently, it seems that Curry is wholly against his matchup with the Lakers superstar. However, Steph can only fulfill his wish when he plays with the 4x MVP on the 2024 Paris Olympics roster.
