After a run of disappointing games, Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves has added fuel to the fire surrounding the criticism of Chris Finch, the team’s head coach. Towns subtly criticized the team’s approach in a statement to reporters and expressed that he felt the team’s current game plan against the Dallas Mavericks was not “working out.” This remark comes on the heels of Draymond Green’s recent comments about coach Finch. All eyes are on Finch as he nurses his recent knee injury.

Never one to hold back when voicing his thoughts, Green recently stated that he thought Coach Finch needed to “make an adjustment.” He did not hold back while condemning the Wolves’ current game plan for the Western Conference Finals. Take a look at the recent criticisms of Chris Finch and the Timberwolves’ strategy.

In KAT’s statement, the player seemed to be indirectly throwing shade at the head coach’s strategy and game plan. He said, “Our game plan is just ‘not let them score’… I think that game plan we had of them scoring was not gonna work out well and it hasn’t. We’re gonna just do a better job.” In Game 3, Minnesota lost 107-116. After their exceptional performance in the playoffs, the Wolves are lagging behind in the Finals.

After the devastating Game 3 loss, Draymond Green came on NBA on TNT to give his honest opinions on Minnesota’s current gameplay. He said, “At some point, Chris Finch gotta make an adjustment. You keep rolling the same guys out there, the same game plan each game, and you’re falling behind 3-0. At what point are you gonna make an adjustment? We can’t worry about Karl-Anthony Towns’ feelings, or Rudy Gobert’s feelings. They need Naz Reid out there, they need Kyle Anderson out there. You gotta figure that out. He has not done a good job, and he’s blaming his guys and that’s not good.”

Green feels that coach Finch needs to shuffle things around to find the team’s footing again. In all 3 games of the finals, both Reid and Anderson have played for under 30 minutes, with Anderson only paying a maximum of 20 minutes. Regardless of the time-scrunch, the duo contributed significantly to the total score. Reid scored the most points in Game 2. Maybe it’s time that the team takes a leap of faith and prioritizes players who have been showing potential.

The Timberwolves are struggling to be consistent. The criticism from a member of the team is concerning. If the Wolves want to turn the series around, Game 4 is their last chance. Minnesota has never made it this far in the championship and it looks like Dallas might be closing soon.

The Wolves are struggling and their star players, KAT and Gobert, have not been on their best performance. KAT contributed 16, 15, and 14 points in each three games respectively. He has been struggling recently and even said that the “unfortunate bounces and looks” have made it tough. He is currently shooting a mere field goal percentage of 27.8 in the series. Which, according to ESPN, would make him the fourth-worst performer by FGP by any player through the first 3 games of a conference finals.

The Minnesota Timberwolves ranked #1 in defense in the playoff season. Even 4X Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, has been grappling to guard Luka Doncic. His struggle on-court is visible. Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins went as far as to say that he had ‘tarnished the DPOTY’. Even the league’s best defense is struggling to keep up with Luka Doncic and the Mavs.

The team’s performance has put Chris Finch under scrutiny. Finch was one of the finalists of the Best Coach award this season but his performance may not be matching his ratings. Game 4 is crucial, if Minnesota loses again, Dallas will advance. The team’s need to rebound from the Mav’s 3-0 lead is urgent. Tune in tonight to see the two teams clash.
