After the game, CP3 suggested that a personal vendetta Foster had towards him influenced the decision. He said, “It’s personal. We had a situation some years ago, and it’s personal. The league knows, everybody knows. There’s been a meeting and all that.”

However, Foster explained his reasoning behind Paul’s ejection in a post-match interview. He said, “He continued to complain and received a second unsportsmanlike technical foul”. The two individuals share an acrimonious relationship, with CP3 having several run-ins with Foster in the past. This latest flare-up just showed the mutual dislike the two have for each other.
