The Bright Side of the Bay is not shining as bright as it should for the Curry family. For Steph, it seems a dream run on the court with the Warriors, but his ‘other commitments’ aren’t helping him to get the perfect bonanza. Context? On one hand, the Curry duo is aiming for new business heights, but on the other, they are facing back-to-back financial blows. And the sad part is, the destruction started at home. Yes, it’s the same place Ayesha and Stephen Curry called home during the NBA All-Star Weekend—Oakland. Worry? One wrong move could send things spiraling, and the Warriors’ star knows that all too well. Unfortunately, this time, it’s Steph Curry who might be facing heat from the locals after what happened to Ayesha.
Just two months ago, Ayesha faced backlash after her Sweet July business shut down in Oakland. The reason? Safety issues, according to the official statement. “In order to prioritize the safety of our patrons and staff, we have made the difficult decision to close our Sweet July cafe and store in Oakland,” the brand announced. However, the news didn’t sit well with everyone. Many locals voiced their disappointment, criticizing her lack of contribution and questioning the business’s success. Meanwhile, Stephen Curry found himself in the wrong spotlight even before his own business got off the ground there.
Last month, the big announcement was made about Stephen Curry’s new office being built in San Francisco. The news created a buzz in Oakland, but that excitement faded quickly when the project was canceled. According to The San Francisco Standard, a company spokesperson said, “Our dream of building a new Thirty Ink HQ at 600 20th Street has been destroyed by the [Nor Cal Carpenters Union].”

They further added, “Unfortunately, our generous and completely unnecessary approach has been deemed unacceptable.” Reportedly, the spokesperson also revealed that the Union’s director of organizing, Jacob Adiarte, “has personally gone out of his way to make it untenable for us to build in San Francisco.”

So, the project ultimately didn’t work out because of severe issues with the Nor Cal Carpenters’ union. The company believes they were being fair in their dealings, but their efforts were not appreciated much. Adiarte allegedly took steps to create obstacles for the project. This could be an issue for Stephen Curry, as conflicts with the locals could put him in hot water with the community.

Stephen Curry is again involved in a dispute with the locals
Being drafted and spending most of his career in the Bay Area, Stephen Curry is undoubtedly one of the city’s most beloved figures. And that raises the expectations of the Baby-faced Assassin. However, he is now in a spot, as his recent move may not sit well with local authorities. Suggestion? Curry should respect the community by using union labor for his projects, highlighting the strong admiration people have for him in the region, though there is no rule to use union labor for private projects.
“This should be a union carpenter project,” the union’s spokesperson, Sam Singer, stated. “I don’t believe there’s a single person in San Francisco, Oakland, or Bay Area who doesn’t look up to, admire, and respect Stephen Curry. We hope that he shows that same respect back and uses union labor to build a wonderful monument for his future endeavors.”

However, this isn’t the first time Curry has faced issues with the locals. Two years ago, the 37-year-old declined a residential project near his home, citing concerns that it could compromise his family’s privacy and safety. Curry’s decision, while understandable from a personal standpoint, wasn’t well received by the locals.

Now, this recent incident could also work against him. Maybe, like Singer mentioned, Stephen Curry needs to reconsider future projects in the city to avoid falling out of favor with the community. The Bay Area has always held Stephen Curry in high regard, and it’s not likely that he would want to jeopardize that over the cancellation of this project.
