Team USA faced a tough opponent in Montenegro in a nail-biting match to win 85?73 and open up Round 2 of the World Cup. Reaves had a difficult time during most of the game, but he delivered when it counted, making a huge three-pointer and finishing with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The American team had a tough start, trailing 11-4 at the beginning of the first quarter. Tyrese Halliburton and Brandon Ingram were two of head coach Steve Kerr?s well-timed substitutions that helped Team USA win. Montenegro, led by Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic, became the first team in the competition to lead Team USA at halftime. But when Reaves came back into the game in the third quarter, he gave the team a much-needed boost and showed off his talent with a vital steal and assist.
Team USA had a narrow six-point lead as the game began its final period. Reaves and the bench players attacked the paint, drawing fouls and making free throws while maintaining their cool. Reaves made a critical three-pointer with 2:44 remaining in the game to boost the margin to seven points. With Mikal Bridges’ layup extending the advantage into double digits in the dying seconds, Team USA narrowly won the game.
