“Yeah, yeah, I still got the itch to play. I got the itch, man” said LeBron James once, but not about basketball. Instead, it was football! The path he would’ve taken, if hooping aspirations hadn’t ruled over the decision. While he never got to pursue it professionally, the 39-year-old veteran continues enjoying the sport as a fan. From booting up his console to play Madden to cheering on his favorites, Bron becomes a relatable fanboy in those moments. Now, after a long time, he decided to show his love for the sport in person.

Earlier today, the official X account of the NFL highlighted LeBron James attending the game between the LA Rams and the Miami Dolphins. Currently, 2-6, the latter traveled to Los Angeles as part of the ‘Monday Night Football’ event. Being in the city of Hollywood, celebrities would’ve been expected to turn up for this game. Given Bron’s love for the sport, and the fact that the SoFi Stadium was just 10.1 miles away from the Crypto.Com arena, this was an opportunity that the 4x NBA Champ simply could not miss.

LeBron James’ appearance at the NFL game comes just hours after he got called out for a big typo mistake! As the MLB was in its final stages, LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a memorable 343-foot home run that gave his team an early 2-0 lead. Celebrating the hit, LeBron took to X and wrote: “FREDDY FREEMAN WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!!”.

‘Freddy’, and not ‘Freddie’, which is how one’s supposed to write his name. LeBron later replied to his own tweet with the correct spelling, possibly as a way to rectify his mistake. Unfortunately, the slip-up had occurred, it became noticed, and the Lakers player didn’t make any further attempts to correct it. Freeman called it out on the ‘New Heights’ podcast by Travis and Jason Kelce, with the hosts having a good laugh. This caught LeBron James’ attention. He then issued a quick apology on his Instagram stories, writing “FREDDIE!!!! My bad man! You was the boogie man out there so I just thought like Mr. Kruger!”

Along with his wholesome love for football, the Laker has also been a longtime supporter of Matthew Stafford. It was only a few days ago when the hoopster gave him a shoutout after his squad’s win against the Seattle Seahawks. Once again, he took to X, and wrote, “WOW!!!!!! MATTHEW STAFFORD A BEAST!!! What a win by the @RamsNFL on the road”.

The 36-year-old led his team to the win with his 298 yards on 25-for-44 passing. Along with that, he also made two touchdowns and an interception. So, there would have been no better time for Stafford to receive the shoutout! Since he was leading in passing yards by the time the recent game reached the 3rd quarter, we can assume that Bron would certainly be having an entertaining night.

Having watched so many NFL games over the course of his life, LeBron James may have thought at one point: “How I wish I was there.” After all, given the stats, The Chosen One had recorded in high school, he could very well have been on the NFL route. Fans wouldn’t know the real reason for LeBron quitting football until the hoopster let the cat out of the bag, a couple of years later.

LeBron James revealed that his mother put down his NFL aspirations over financial troubles: “Boy, we in the slums boy”

Today, with a reported net worth of $1.2 billion (Forbes), LeBron James is the only active billionaire in the NBA. Overall, he ranks #2, right between Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. However, this glory wasn’t always there. Raised by a single mother, the duo often had to move from place to place. Surrounded by street violence and poverty, LeBron’s mother Gloria James knew that her son could only pursue limited opportunities. When it came to football, Gloria was not 100% on board, with him pursuing it as a career.

In an appearance on ‘The Shop’ podcast, LeBron James revealed, “My best friends told me if I play football, another down is going to whoop my a– every day at school. And my mama was like, ‘That’s it. That’s it.’ My mama saw the vision, she’s like ‘Boy, we in the slums boy. I love coming to football games, but we one year removed from going to the draft. So stop playing this.’”

LeBron James was no novice when it came to football. During his two years in high school, he recorded a total of 103 catches, ran 2065 yards, and accumulated 23 receiving touchdowns. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to win his mom’s trust. Therefore, the now-22-season veteran instead chose to devote his entire energy to the hoop. The rest, as they say, is history!
