Klay Thompson leaving the Warriors is truly the end of an era. Obviously, Dub Nation is still coping with the loss and even his teammates were flooded with a lot of emotions in the last few hours, especially the ones who were with Klay throughout. Draymond Green and Stephen Curry are two such individuals. Dray revealed that he had a conversation with the now-Mavs star over the phone after he decided to leave. It even brought tears to his wife’s eyes, and it reminded her of a similar situation from last year.

Addressing Klay’s departure on The Draymond Green Show, the veteran revealed that, when Klay dropped the news, it made Hazel Renee burst into tears. “She’s like I’m about to cry. She said it reminded her of last year,” Dray remarked. Just like Klay, Draymond also had a huge decision to make, in the previous off-season while heading into free agency, about whether to stay in the Bay Area.

And surprisingly, the former DPOY did consider breaking up the band long before Klay. In a shocking revelation, he had made up his mind about leaving and even called Steph, Klay, and Kerr individually. “Yo, I’m leaving. I’m going to Memphis,” he recalled telling them. While his teammates were soaking in the news, Dray’s wife Hazel was bawling her eyes out. So, Thompson’s leaving brought back all those memories.

Can you imagine Draymond Green wearing a Grizzlies uniform alongside Ja Morant? Fortunately for Dub Nation, the situation never came to that as Joe Lacob’s brilliance prompted Draymond to re-sign on a 4-year $100 million deal, solidifying his future.

Although Draymond took the news positively and even congratulated Klay for his decision, he was left in tears too, when the reality finally hit him. During all that, Steph filled his Instagram with a plethora of images of all happy memories with Klay and Dray. And to cap it all off, he shared a heartfelt message for his Splash Brother.

“Gonna miss you @klaythompson. Even though we won’t finish the journey together, what we did will never be done again. Couldn’t have imagined a better run with you and @money23green. Changed the whole Bay Area. Changed the way the game is played. Killa Klay at the center of it all. Thank you for everything bro. Go enjoy playing basketball and doing what you do”.

“Splash Bros 4 life my guy,” he concluded.

The nostalgic images and the write-up were enough to bring tears to Draymond’s eyes along with any grown man, to be honest. “Seeing that was like Man! It just kinda take you back,” Green admitted. He was reminded of his incredible times with the Splash Brothers and how they helped in building the Warriors dynasty from scratch.

With so many great memories to cherish, Draymond assured the community that his relationship with Klay will always remain intact, despite the big breakup on the hardwood.
