After Joel Embiid made some bold comments about how he thinks the Philadelphia 76ers are a better team than the New York Knicks, Knicks’ guard Jalen Brunson responded, giving his opinions and talking about the teams’ reaction to Embiid’s comments. Further, after losing against the Knicks in game 2 on Monday, Embiid made some heated remarks about the game, talked about how his team needs to re-strategize, and ended his statement by saying, “We’re the better team.”

New York leads by 2-0, leaving Philadelphia behind

When asked about their reaction to the Sixers’ star’s comments, Jalen Brunson said that the Knicks team had seen Joel’s statements and that there was nothing they could really do about them. He was quick to shut down the dialogue by saying, “It’s the playoffs. If you need any more ammunition, I don’t know if you’re in the right business.” However, he did not sound eager to speak more on the topic.

Joel’s disappointment can be understood; he feels that the game was unfairly biased towards the Knicks. But it should be noted that the Knicks players all contributed equally to the game, an effort that was lacking from the Sixers, where most of the points were scored by Embiid and Maxey.

Out of the 101 points scored by the Sixers, 34 were scored by Embiid and 35 by Maxey; that’s more than half of the shots. The duo also had 6 assists with 10 rebounds and 10 assists with 9 rebounds, respectively. Joel and Tyrese are essentially carrying the team by themselves. The contribution by other 76ers‘ players does not even come close, whereas the Knicks’ team was in sync and working well with each other.

Joel Embiid breaks down after a 104-101 loss to Knicks

The 76ers’ player was in distress after the devastating loss; he was answering questions with his head in his hands. According to him, his teammate Tyrese Maxey was fouled several times and deserved to be on the free-throw line. There were several instances during the game where Maxey could’ve been fouled, but none of them seemed to have been called by the referee. Joel said it was “F*cking unacceptable.”  When Sixers coach Nick Nurse asked for a timeout, he was ignored by the referee, Joel went on to criticize that.

Despite the crushing loss, Embiid seemed to hold out much hope for his team. He said, “We should be 2-0. We’re good. We’re gonna win this series. We know what we gotta fix. We did a better job today, so we’re going to fix it. We’re the better team, and we’re gonna keep fighting.” Word traveled to the Knicks, and this is how they responded.

If Joel Embiid hopes to see his team beat the New York Knicks any time soon, a complete shift is required for the Sixers because their current gameplay does not seem to be working out at all. New York and Philadelphia meet again tonight for game 3 at 7:30 p.m. EST. Stay tuned
