The Philadelphia 76ers are sinking deeper into the quicksand of injury. Despite their recent win on the shoulders of their newly minted All-Star Tyrese Maxey, things aren’t looking too good for Philly. The primary reason for that was growing concern about the reigning MVP Joel Embiid. The nation watched him limp across the hardwood in the Sixers’ loss against the Warriors. His season-low 14-point performance just being the tip of the iceberg for the fans in the City of Brotherly Love.
According to a recent update by Sams Charania on Instagram, it looks like a horror show awaits Philly. The caption states “Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid, the reigning NBA MVP, was diagnosed with a displaced flap of the meniscus in his left knee and is considering surgery, two sources.”

The MVP race now seems like a long shot for the 7ft center who was arguably been having one of the best regular season performances in the history of the modern NBA. His averages are so crazy they look like they’re straight out of 2k scoring 35.3 points a night, leading the league in scoring, he also has 11.3 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 5.7 assists. Not to mention he recently dropped 70 points and 18 rebounds with a true shooting percentage of 62 with only 39 minutes played.
Many considered him a shoo-in for the back-to-back MVP honors, but with the Surgery now coming up things are looking Bleak for Emiid and his side. Now leading the MVP voting are Jokic and Shai Gilagoues Alexander either of whom are more likely to win if Embiid is absent for more than 20 games. It’s interesting to note that his injury started while there was a much-hyped battle against Jokic in Denver.

Not only was his presence a disaster his those 30 minutes of play could end up costing Philly the season. The only hope that remains for the Sixers now is that he returns come playoff time, but that seems unlikely. Young Maxey has to spearhead their effort now but with a lack of experience a deep playoff run doesn’t seem in the books for the Sixers.
