The NFL season kicked off with the fan favorites, the Eagles and the defending champs, securing their opening games. As exciting as these games were, Kevin Durant‘s recent partnership with FanDuel aligned perfectly with the start of the football season. The ‘Slim Reaper’ is a loyal fan of the Washington Commanders. However, his long-time favorite squad hasn’t seen a lot of wins for years, but KD’s unmatched loyalty to the Commanders sets him aside from other football fans. On the other hand, there’s this one team that Durant truly hates which also happens to be his friends’ favorite squad.

In his recent interview with Kay Adams, Durant talked about his love for the Commanders. He also mentioned his least favorite team. It won’t come as much of a surprise after knowing that Durant does not like the Dallas Cowboys. But why is that? Well, if anything, he’s not the only NBA player to hate the franchise. However, his reason for the hate stays quite different than others. “Cowboys easily.,” KD said when asked about which NFL team he’d get rid of. Durant’s reason was also justified for the same.

“I just don’t like them. I just don’t and I think I had to ask myself why don’t I like the Cowboys, cause I don’t hate any teams or any players or like, I’m a huge fan of teams, but the Cowboys is that one team I just don’t like. And I think it’s because a lot of people where I’m from in DC have become Cowboys fans. It’s probably like 75% of people in Washington DC, in my group of people that are Cowboys fans. And I just hate that they don’t stay loyal to the crib, you know.”, Durant said.

Now, it wouldn’t be the best feeling when one’s friends don’t support the hometown team. But then again, KD is a true fan of the Commanders. His friends might regret not siding with the Commanders this season, as the franchise seems quite confident in their second overall pick. Jayden Daniels, who is the new starting QB of the Commanders is one of the most anticipated rookies to make his debut. It will be interesting to watch Washington this season as they hope to make a dominant run in the East.

Coming back to Durant hating on the Cowboys, certain NBA players including LeBron James and Damian Lillard also oppose the team. Last year, the King did not hesitate to state his hate for the Cowboys. “I know we gotta lot of Cowboy fans in America. I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!” said James on Instagram Live. Damian Lillard, on the other hand, condemned the Cowboys after the Raiders came up victorious back in November of 2021. “Ok I take it back…it’s only one nation #RaiderNation,” Lillard tweeted. However, James’ hate for the Cowboys might have come after the team owner Jerry Jones’ comments. 

Does Kevin Durant hate the Cowboys for any other reason?

KD is a fan of the sport and is more inclined toward how the teams and the players perform. In 2017, Jones’ comments surprised fans throughout the country. The owner said, “If there’s anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play. Understand? We will not…if we are disrespecting the flag, then we will not play.”. Now, this was because players started to kneel during the national anthem, in support of the protests across the US.

However, this wasn’t the reason behind KD’s dislike for the team. But it may have been the case for LeBron James, who started supporting the 49ers. The New York Knicks and even the Los Angeles Lakers are widely known to be the Dallas Cowboys of the NBA. This is because similar to the Cowboys, the Knicks and the Lakers are extremely valuable franchises. However, none of them have found much success except for the Lakers, who won their 17th title in 2020.

It will be interesting to watch the Cowboys this season, being the recent toppers of the NFC East.
