Kristaps Porzingis of Boston Celtics was able to prove his worth to his franchise in his debut match as he recorded 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. However, before getting traded to the Celtics, Porzingis was in three different teams,  one of which was the Dallas Mavericks. He spent 2.5 years with them and even made his playoff debut with the Mavs. But the Mavs traded him to the Wizards in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.

Recently, Porzingis appeared on the Old Man and the Three podcast and spoke to JJ Reddick about everything that transpired at Dallas.

As Luka Doncic was the centerpiece of the Mavericks, they tried to build a team around him. In that attempt, they acquired Porzingis in a high-profile deal with the Knicks. The combination of a dynamic big guard and a flexible stretch big seemed good, which led to Porzingis signing a max deal in expectation of a powerful partnership. However, their on-court partnership did not seem to go as planned due to which KP6 only lasted with the Mavericks for 2.5 years.

In the interview with JJ Reddick, he spoke about the duo struggling and claimed that “maturity and communication” played pivotal roles. He said “It’s a big mix of things. Maturity, for sure.”

He further went on to accept responsibility for not completely embracing the position he was assigned. But all he desired from his team and teammates was better communication because he said he wasn’t much into numbers and analytics. Due to that, when the team told him “You’re going to be way more effective doing this”, he did not understand them fully.

But then Reddick asked him about his equation with the Slovenian star, Luka Doncic. “Do you think there was a young bull dynamic with you and Luka? Like a pissing contest?” Redick asked. To which Porzingis admitted, “Um, early on for sure, but, I think we both tried to make it work, you know. It’s just, I think communication, and maturity on both of our parts should’ve been better.”
