The Boston Celtics are playing a different ballgame this season. They recently hosted the Golden State Warriors, with fans anticipating a possible Stephen Curry takeover. However, it seems like the C’s were on a 2022 Finals redemption mission. The game turned out to be one of the most lopsided wins of the year, and possibly the worst scoring differential in Warriors history. With that, Steve Kerr kept Steph, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green away from the action for a significant chunk of the game.

When talked about the huge 52-point loss from the 140-88 game, Kerr claimed that he decided to rest his superstars somewhere late in the first quarter or during the second. Regardless of the blowout, he reassured that the Warriors have nothing to worry about, asserting that the game is a ” flush it down the toilet,” scenario – signifying to be a one-time thing.

Boston entered the game with incredible momentum, soaring for a massive 82 points in the first half. On the other hand, the Warriors struggled throughout, scoring 22 and 16 points in the initial quarters. Their starters combined for 33 points, with Moses Moody leading the bunch with 11 points.

Even though the Warriors trio were put on the sidelines, it is highly unlikely for a team to endure a 50+ point loss in the absence of their stars. Moreover, this season, the Warriors bench has displayed a knack for holding their own in better ways.

With that being said, the final score highlights an interesting narrative. Looking at the scoreboard when the Warriors starters took to the bench in light of the final buzzer, it suggests that the secondary pieces in their rotation put a better performance, all while stepping up in the face of the adversities.

It was a record game for the Celtics

As the weary Warriors tried to bring their best game, they initially matched the best team in the league by leveling the score at 21 in the first stretch. However, their impromptu game plan to shrug off Jaylen Brown from the three backfired from there. As Green continued to leave Jaylen open around the arc, the All-Star put up 19 points in the first quarter alone.

Soon, with a 44-point lead at the half, the C’s recorded their highest halftime lead in franchise history. Moreover, the final buzzer indicated their third-largest win margin since their inception.

Moreover, the Celtics also marked their third 50+ point win this season, setting the bar for the most such wins by a team in a single season. Additionally, narrowing the record book, Al Horford made history by becoming the 11th player in NBA history to garner 14k, 8k rebounds, 3k assists, and 1000 blocks.
