“Basketball Sicko” JJ Redick has used this term multiple times to describe himself because he’s obsessed with the game. And this mindset is a major reason why he has found instant success as the Lakers HC. So, it’s understandable when JJ loses his cool on the court if something goes wrong. Well, that’s exactly what happened last night during the 76ers clash, as he was fuming after a Lakers star messed up a play. A leaked transcribed audio revealed that rookie Dalton Knecht was on the receiving end of JJ’s raging outburst.

As Austin Reaves dribbled the ball up the floor, Redick looked visibly frustrated on the sidelines and immediately called a timeout. He then walked onto the court yelling, “Jesus f—–g Christ!” That’s when AR shot a three-pointer, which riled up the rookie boss even more. Turns out, he was mad at Knecht as he turned to the bench and yelled, “It’s your f—–g play!”

While Dalton’s mistake might’ve left JJ fuming, the rookie had a decent individual performance. He was the second-highest-scoring Laker behind LeBron, with 24 points. And he went 5 of 8 from the three-point line. Probably, JJ’s NSFW message motivated Knecht to lock in for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, that was not enough to save the Lakers from getting blown out by 14 points.

Well, Knecht was not the only rookie to bring out a wild reaction from JJ. The head coach also expressed his disappointment in Bronny James, who was given playing time during the crucial first quarter. “Just him giving us energy, I think, was the goal,” JJ remarked. But the move backfired. Bronny went scoreless and committed 3 turnovers, making things worse.

JJ Redick was clearly not impressed, “He didn’t play well… I have confidence in him but obviously didn’t provide that at a high level.” Maybe, the pressure of playing in a nationally televised game got to the young rookie. Of course, the head coach was also not pleased with how the rest of the squad performed.

JJ Redick claimed LeBron James and Co. were “unorganized” in the loss against Sixers

It’s understandable why the rookies could not handle the pressure. But even the veterans on the team failed to step up. Apart from LeBron, who scored 31 points and nine assists, no other starter scored more than 13 points! And Redick revealed what went wrong during the postgame presser, “We were throwing the ball everywhere. I think that is just again, fatigue, mental and physical. Just bad decision-making and, you know, poor execution. Very unorganized throughout the game. You know, not our best.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is JJ Redick's fiery coaching style what the Lakers need, or is it too much pressure?

Have an interesting take?

Yes, the Lakers were visibly fatigued after playing against the Charlotte Hornets the previous night. Adding to the concerns, Anthony Davis was forced to leave the game in the first quarter because of an injury, which was a massive blow. Moreover, the loss exposed major inconsistency from the LA side as it was only a few days ago after the win against the Wizards that JJ was on cloud nine about his team’s performance, “That was one of our more complete games, regardless of what time of season it was or who the opponent was. We just had a really professional approach. We executed at a pretty high level.” Yes, he used the word ‘professional’ multiple times while describing the team’s approach. However, that professionalism seemed to be missing last night, which was evident from the players not executing the designed play properly. Hopefully, the LA franchise will come more prepared for the next game and JJ will not be forced to lose his temper like he did last night. What are your thoughts?
