After a failed campaign this season, the Los Angeles Lakers have subjected themselves to a slew of changes. The first one was the firing of former head coach Darvin Ham. The very next thing on the Lakers’ agenda was to fix the leak in the roster and find a new coach. Despite not having any prior experience, JJ Redick has been a top prospect for the job and is now filling in with additional changes.

According to a report by Mark Stein,  “JJ Redick would target Sam Cassell, James Borrego, and Jared Dudley as his assistants should he be named the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.”

Dudley has a clear connection with Redick, having been teammates on the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2013-14 season. He also played for the Lakers in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, contributing to their championship win in the bubble. Regarding Cassell and Borrego, both have been mentioned as potential head coaching candidates for the Lakers. It’s uncertain if they would consider assistant roles, but either one would be a valuable addition to Los Angeles’ coaching staff.

All of this, however, could be in the effort to appease LeBron James. While LBJ has explicitly stated he has nothing to do with the franchise’s decision on the appointment of the new head coach, his former teammate thinks otherwise. Citing plenty of reasons for him to remain in Los Angeles.

JJ Redick might ensure LeBron’s retirement in LA

Udonis Haslem in his recent appearance on ‘Get Up’ at ESPN has confirmed that, “You got a better chance wrestling an alligator than getting Bron out of L.A. … He ain’t going nowhere.” While Haslem asserts that with a new TV deal coming in and a chance to make more money, it’s just good “business” if Bron stays in LA, JJ Redick might also have a role. This is because LA might pick Bronny as the 54th pick.

However, Bronny has made it clear earlier in the draft combine that, “My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself and get to the NBA.” The narrative of playing with his father is still a genuine outcome of the NBA draft.  Still, it doesn’t seem likely that Bron will leave Los Angeles anytime soon.
