The Milwaukee Bucks’ star tandem, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard combined for 75 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. That accounted for more than 60% of their points in what was a one-point loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. It summed up the agony of the Doc Rivers’ squad. Overreliance on their duo has resulted in a 1-5 record. That has spiraled rampant trade rumors around the Greek Freak, but maybe it’s time to look the other way.
Since coming to the Bucks, Lillard hasn’t had the best shooting production. Last year he averaged a career-low in scoring, and this year he has been uncharacteristically inefficient. Some feel he isn’t happy to be in Milwaukee since the Bucks weren’t his preferred destination. “I don’t think it was a secret that Miami is where I wanted to go,” he said when he initially joined the Deers.
It didn’t work out the first time, but there may be a second attempt in the works for Vice City to bring in the veteran sharpshooter. According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, rather than considering a move for Giannis, the franchise might explore the market for Dame, aiming to add pieces that could enhance the depth around the two-time MVP.

“It could open the door for the Heat to make another run at Damian Lillard. And then the question becomes if the willingness would be similar to when the bid was considered for Dame in the 2023 offseason with Portland,” the Heat insider wrote.
Initially, the buzz around Damian Lillard joining the Heat was fuming. Not just him, but even the organization felt they would harbor the Portland Trail Blazers icon. When it didn’t happen, Jimmy Butler even threw out accusations of there being possible “tampering” from the Bucks.
Now though there is a reality to address. Does the trade make sense to the same proximity as it did in 2023?
Should the Bucks make a move for Damian Lillard if the opportunity comes?

When the idea first emerged, the Heat and Blazers couldn’t agree on terms. Vice City was prepared to trade Tyler Herro and draft picks to acquire Dame Dolla, but Portland valued him at a higher price. Eventually, the Bucks and Suns stepped in, offering a substantial package of assets and draft capital, which allowed Portland to also offload Jrue Holiday in exchange for additional picks and two players.

With the abysmal start the Bucks have had, their demands can’t match that of Portland. However, should the Heat be willing to part ways with Herro. Despite Butler being the forefront star, scoring often falls to the shoulders of the blossoming guard. Furthermore, he plays with a chip on his shoulder, contributing with energy on the defensive end.
He is yet to hone that side of his game. However, improvements have been consistent. Yet, Herro has been susceptible to defensive breakdowns with a defensive rating of 116 this season. Yet, a package with a defensive-minded player could tempt the Bucks to pull the trigger on their experiment.
Even though their record isn’t impressive, Milwaukee will reassess the situation once Khris Middleton returns. The issue isn’t necessarily with Lillard—it’s that the Bucks have lacked scoring depth beyond their two stars. With additional offensive threats, the team can start to find a rhythm defensively and begin to ignite momentum.

The play is going to be of patience. Hasty decisions based on early season struggles will be the last thing on their minds. So far, Giannis Antetokounmpo can see the determination of players. And Lillard, after having no time with his teammate during the summer is slowly beginning to navigate through his toughest transition.
