The Lakers would look to build upon an encouraging end to last season, in which they stormed their way through to the Western Conference finals. They defeated title contenders like the Grizzlies and Warriors, before losing to eventual champions, the Denver Nuggets. Austin Reaves was the breakout star of last season, as the 25-year-old averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 assists per game in the playoffs. With a clean slate provided by the new season, LeBron will be banking on Reaves, as King James looks to further cement his legacy by winning his fifth title.

In the Lakers’ season opener against the Nuggets, Austin Reaves is a shoo-in for a starting spot. Besides LeBron and AD, Reaves was the best performer for the Lakers in the playoffs last season. But, the Lakers will have to do without Jarred Vanderbilt and rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino in the upcoming game. Vanderbilt is recovering from a heel injury, while Schifino is nursing a knee injury.
