The Lakers front office has built the team around the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Acquiring other star players to compliment their talismanic duo has been a successful approach for the franchise. One such acquisition was Malik Monk. Last night, Monk played against the Miami Heat in an intense home game. Malik scored five points of his 27-point haul in overtime to force a Lakers victory.
A Lakers fan on Twitter noticed what Heat’s player, Bam Adebayo, did on Instagram after the game. Adebayo left a comment on Malik Monk’s celebratory Instagram post in the game’s aftermath. Monk captioned the post with, “Some of yall counted me out. Imma stay down though!” Adebayo left a comment on the post, which included only a middle finger emoji.

Adebayo’s comment could pass as banter and in jest as he and Monk played for the Kentucky Wildcats while in college. Monk and Adebayo parted ways as the Charlotte Hornets selected Monk as the eleventh overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. The Miami Heat drafted Adebayo in that season’s draft itself as the 14th overall pick. The Lakers signed Monk on a minor league deal in August 2021.

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in a home game at the Staples Center. LeBron James was a major absence as he missed the game with an abdominal strain. In LeBron’s absence, however, Malik Monk brought the heat for the Lakers against the Miami side.
Monk led the Lakers’ scoring with 27 points as teammate Russell Westbrook scored 25 points, with Anthony Davis adding another 24 points. Bam Adebayo scored 28 points as Tyler Herro scored 27 points but could not prevent the Heat from continuing their two game losing streak.
