Prominent NASCAR star and business partner of basketball legend Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin is infamous for being opinionated and dishing the dirt on all things NASCAR. During the latest episode of the “Actions Detrimental” podcast, Denny Hamlin and his co-host discussed the latest Talladega race, his daughter Taylor’s adorable career aspirations, and a podcast favorite segment called #DearDenny, along with diving deep into the recent athlete trend of Ice Bath and Hamlin’s personal experience with them. The 23XI Racing co-owner expressed his disapproval of Joe Rogan’s famous routine of taking ice baths first thing in the morning and while his remarks were specifically about the commentator’s use of ice baths, his overall sentiment was clear: “F**k that, dude.”

Denny Hamlin expresses distaste for Joe Rogan’s routine

On a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast titled “We need a dub bad,” Hamlin discussed his thoughts on Rogan’s ice bath routine. He said, “The only thing is I’m not one of those guys like Rogan who can do it first thing in the morning like f**k that, dude. Like my body has to be hot for me to get in there, much easier to do after I’m hot rather than you know first thing in the morning, no way.”

Hamlin’s reaction to Rogan’s routine is not surprising. Ice baths are not for everyone, and it takes a certain level of mental toughness to be able to withstand freezing temperatures. While some people find them invigorating, others find them unbearable.

Ice baths have been used for centuries as a way to improve physical recovery and reduce inflammation. When you expose your body to cold temperatures, your blood vessels constrict, which reduces swelling and inflammation in your muscles. This can help speed up the recovery process after a workout or a sports injury.

Ice bath plunges: The recent trend in the sporting world

Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster and UFC commentator, is known for his passion for fitness and intense workout sessions. However, to recover from the soreness that inevitably follows such rigorous exercise, Rogan also swears by ice bath sessions.

In a video posted on social media last year, Rogan shared his experience with ice baths and the benefits they offer. He explained that exposing the body to cold water can reduce inflammation, speed up recovery, and even boost the immune system. Ice baths are also believed to improve circulation, decrease muscle fatigue, and alleviate depression and anxiety.

He said, “My body feels so good. My soreness that was generally just an ordinary part of my everyday life, a massive amount of that has disappeared. The sauna and cold plunge routine that I do, it has made a giant difference and it just makes me feel great. It makes a giant difference in your physical and maybe just as important or more important, your mental well-being. My mind feels so much better after a hard workout and after a good sauna session and a good ice bath session.”

Although Rogan is not the only one immersed in the ice bath experience. Recently, NASCAR Icon Dale Earnhardt Jr and his wife Amy Earnhardt also shared their experience with Ice Baths on an episode of Dale Jr Download.

Describing his experience, Dale Jr said, “This seems like it isn’t that big of a deal, but when you’re standing next to that tub full of ice, and you know you just put 15 gallons of ice in it, and it’s already a cold water spigot from outside, trying to get yourself to climb in there and you know if you put a foot in or a leg in, you’re not going in. You gotta go all the way in or you’re not going in.”

The debate over cold therapy is likely to continue for some time, with both sides presenting valid arguments for and against its use. While some people may find it beneficial, others may not see any significant improvements in their physical or mental health. Denny Hamlin’s comments on Joe Rogan’s famous routine have sparked a conversation about the importance of listening to your body and finding what works for you.
