When Taylor Swift sang, “I can see you years from now […] talking over a football game,” over a decade ago, who knew the pop singer was manifesting Monday’s game? The Kansas City Chiefs’ victory over the New York Jets drowned in a horde of screaming swifties yearning for a glimpse of the international icon. From the National Football League to its broadcasting channels, everyone scrambled to grab a piece of Swift’s popularity pie.

Not one to shy away from dessert, former racer Kenny Wallace joined the singer’s multi-million fandom to discuss Swift’s presence at the MetLife Stadium. Although she was allegedly supporting Chiefs‘ tight end Travis Kelce, Wallace offered another alternative for her thanks to her enormous fanbase.

It wouldn’t be surprising if 2023 came to be known as the Year of the Swift. Through her Eras tour, the 12-time Grammy Award winner changed the fortune of whatever she associated with, including the American economy. Combine that with the most popular sport in the country, it was bound to create a frenzy. When word got out of Swift’s forthcoming appearance at the Arrowhead Stadium, a record 24 million people tuned in to watch the Chiefs plummet the Chicago Bears. And the anticipation for the next game skyrocketed.

By the time Patrick Mahomes‘ team clinched a 23–20 win in a nail-biting fourth quarter, CBS reported a 63% hike in female viewership between the ages of 18 and 49. Most of them awaited another glance as the cameras repeatedly panned toward the celeb. But the quarterback has his own share of fan following. And they did not appreciate Mahomes’ distracted interceptions that could have cost them heavily. In his YouTube show, Kenny Wallace pointed out the indignant women who attributed the errors to Mahomes’ apparent interest in the beloved star.

The NASCAR veteran exclaimed, I see a couple of you girls out there breathing that Taylor Swift’s taking your territory. [Saying] Mahomes wouldn’t have thrown those interceptions if Taylor was not up in the suite!”

Scoffing at the allegations, Wallace used the Legendary Michael Jordan’s example to prove that stadium audience has no correlation with the player’s game. Oscar-winner Jack Nicholson was often spotted at noted NBA games over the years. Wallace explained how Jordan’s performance could never be affected by Nicholson’s impressive presence.

Moreover, Mahomes was questioned about scoring touchdowns for the benefit of the popstar during the game with Chicago and his response would surely interest swifties all over the world.

Whether it was a Brad Pitt sighting at Wimbledon or Jennifer Lopez’s halftime performance, when the sporting and entertainment world collided, it inexplicably piqued interest. NASCAR’s most famous race, the Daytona 500, often attracted celebrity attention. Along with Tiffany Haddish this year, the prestigious race witnessed the likes of Tom Cruise, Owen Wilson, and Charlize Theron over the years. But the impact of Taylor Swift’s rumored interest in Kelce was unmatched. Occasional snippets of Taylor Swift were enough to enhance the ratings of a regular game to the Super Bowl.

As far as the famous quarterback was concerned, he divulged a cheeky hint regarding his teammate even before the interceptions. When asked about the scorching pressure of Swift fans, Mahomes was quick to respond that he nudged the ball in the right direction. Speaking to Fox after an easy 41-10 score, Mahomes humorously admitted, “A little bit of pressure”.

He further continued, “So I knew I had to get it to Trav [Kelce] and of course, it’s on the round that Travis, he does his own thing and just makes up a route and I throw it to him. I think he wanted to get in the end zone just as much as all the swifties wanted him to”.
