There’s no denying that the NFL quarterback, Tom Brady, is an absolute star. However, who knew that his stardom was enough to topple NASCAR off the NBC?

Central Florida’s NBC affiliate, WESH recently chose a preseason NFL game over NASCAR Cup Series’ last season race at Daytona. The Coke Zero Sugar 400 race at Daytona beach will not be covered by WESH. Instead, the race has been bumped to another affiliate CW18 WKCF. This was a huge disappointment for NASCAR fans as WESH shares a long-time association with Daytona.

Infuriated by the decision, they expressed their opinions under Sports Business Journal’s Motorsport Reporter, Adam Stern’s tweet. Comparing the popularity of Tom Brady and Chase Elliott, Stern clearly stated that “Daytona’s local NBC affiliate takes Bucs over Coke Zero 400.”

Reacting to the news, fans expressed their frustration. However, most of the tweets were directed towards the stock car motorsport racing authority NASCAR. Expressing his anger towards NASCAR not being able to keep up with a football preseason game, a Twitter user left a comment in the comment section.

The user wrote “This tells everything we know is wrong with NASCAR. Regular season NFL game is one thing but a preseason game and NASCAR can’t beat it.”

While another one commented on the failure of the new NASCAR next gen cars. Another one asked NASCAR to “fix it” while many blamed NASCAR for NBC’s decision.

Kind of losing their hometown in the form of WESH’s channel 2, NBC’s decision was obviously upsetting to the NASCAR fans.

But didn’t Tom Brady announce his retirement?

Tom Brady, who would be returning to play for the Bucs camp after his absence, is reported to make a sole appearance in the preseason game. After exiting the New England Patriots in 2019, Tom Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a while. However, after the 2021 Super Bowl victory, Brady announced his retirement in February 2022.

Soon turning 45-years old, Tom Brady recently decided to come back out of his retirement. Knowing that he is close to the end of his career, Brady told Variety, “I made the decision in the moment, and I felt it was the right thing for the team to let the Bucs know. You need time to plan. And then through conversations with Bruce [Arians, the team’s former coach], Jason [Licht, general manager] and my wife, I felt like I could still play and compete.”

Though Tom Brady’s return is a huge news for his fans, NBC’s decision does has to do something with NASCAR. The comments on Adam Stern’s post mostly blamed NASCAR for not being able to keep up with a series like the NFL. And this is something that the authority should look at.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon, the stock car racing body, announced that the Daytona race would be moving to NBC’s “sister stations.” Apart from CW18 WKCF, the race would be streamed on Peacock and NBC Sports App.
